2016 NFL Picks: Championship Weekend

Hey all, Steve here.

Buckle up for Championship Weekend! We now have our final 4 in the NFL. We’ve got the Packers. We’ve got the Falcons. We’ve got the Steelers. We’ve got the Patriots. Quite the quarterback group in the final 4, right? We have 3 future Hall of Famers (even if they don’t throw one more pass in the NFL) and we’ve also got the potential MVP in the league in Matt Ryan.

So now that the stage has been set, let’s get into our picks for the Sunday match-ups. First, let me have my say on why I am picking the teams that I am.

Steelers at Patriots

It’s actually going to be a mild day in Foxboro on Sunday with temps near 50 degrees. So, weather doesn’t figure to be a big deal – even though both teams are quite used to playing in the cold. As far as what is actually going to take place on the field, I think the Patriots have some legitimate injury concerns in Chris Hogan (deep threat) and Martellus Bennett. Both can be huge parts of this game if they are healthy and big missing pieces if they are missing or are limited. My thought is this: the Steelers have Big Ben, Bell and Brown. They are the most feared “killer B” combination since the group of Biggio, Bagwell, Bell and Berkman of the Houston Astros. They are a triple threat that is capable of multiple big plays and the Patriots are just not used to it.

Packers at Falcons

How many points can possibly be scored in this game? 80? 90? Really. When it comes to defense, these two teams aren’t the best in the world. Remember when Aaron Rodgers said that the Falcons have a great defense? Well, he was either lying or as Scott said, he snuck through concussion protocol. I really do think this one comes down to injuries. You have Julio Jones with the toe thing, but I don’t think that is serious at all. Then on the other side of the field there is some more concern. Concern as in Jordy Nelson being healthy or Davante Adams being healthy. Those can be potentially huge blows to the Packers chances of moving on to the Super Bowl. Aaron Rodgers is an absolute beast, but think about the weapons that would be taken away from him if those guys are out. For the sake of the fans, I hope they are all healthy and we get the shootout that we deserve on Sunday. If everyone is healthy I can see Rodgers extending this insane hot streak he has been on since saying they can run the table.

Now, let’s get to the standard order of things. First we will get to last weeks records, followed by the overall standings and then our official picks for Championship Sunday! Here we go!
