Hey all – Steve here. In a story that is still in its “breaking stage”, it has been announced that Ben Affleck will take over as the new Batman in the Man of Steel 2 that is set to be released in July of 2015. This comes after reports surfaced (internet rumors) that Christian Bale was offered nearly $50 million to stay on as Batman. This is massive news within the industry and gives fans an answer to a question they have been asking since the movie was announced. Here is a blurb from the press release:

“Ending weeks of speculation, Ben Affleck has been set to star as Batman, a.k.a. Bruce Wayne. Affleck and filmmaker Zack Snyder will create an entirely new incarnation of the character in Snyder’s as-yet-untitled project—bringing Batman and Superman together for the first time on the big screen and continuing the director’s vision of their universe, which he established in “Man of Steel.”

Great news for the movie and its fans. What do you guys think??

Look I respect Ben Affleck he does some great movies, done well as a producer, etc. but as Batman just not seeing it. I know I’ve been proven wrong before but to me I’d cast him as Harvey Dent or something else-just not as Batman

Love Ben but can u say George Clooney??

  • Jammy

NNOOOOO!!! He screwed up Dare Devil, don’t let him screw up Batman too!!!

  • Joe

Just when you thought DC was headed in right direction…

  • Joe

These are the same comments I saw when Bale was cast.

  • Michael

People bitched about Heath Ledger being The Joker at first… Look what happened. I’m game for this.

  • Carmen

Ok they killed the movie now . This is almost as choosing George Clooney again, really

Ben’s best stuff has been in the directors seat. However We all reacted this way when we heard Ledger was the Joker. We all know how that turned out. We’ll need to reserve judgement till we see it.

I think this is a great choice! The Town was great and so was Argo! You can’t bring up Daredevil. That was so long ago and that also has to do with the directing and screen writing. Snyder and goyer will make him an awesome batman!

Can never match the quality of Christan Bale…

Now that I have had time to digest, they said that they love his acting chops and what he brings to a seasoned Batman. I don’t know. I like him as an actor but not as “the” Dark Knight or suave Bruce Wayne.

However, Ledger impressed us a Joker…and Hathaway as Catwoman. Robert Downey Jr. was supposed to destroy Iron Man. He has some time to really dive into this character and prepare…because the fans will be his biggest critics if he’s not the Bat. Let’s see what he can bring to the table.

Here’s the thing. We 5 years from now we are going to play revisionist history regardless of how this Ben Affleck decision plays out. People went ape shit when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker. Guess what? He won an Oscar. Tobey Mcguire as Spider-Man? People were outraged. He proved to be more than capable. People who are up in arms about Ben Affleck are looking at Gigli and Armageddon as a baseline. Think about The Town and Argo. When you think about it, who better to play the spoiled/rich boy Bruce Wayne than Ben Affleck? It’s just the Batman side of the coin he has to master. I think it’s a great choice. The Justice League needed a star to kind of carry the film and who is hotter right now than Ben Affleck?Fresh off The Town and taking home the best picture Oscar for Argo.Look at the success of The Avengers. They took a big star in Robert Downey Jr ( whom people bitched at the casting choice at the time) and surrounded him by lesser known actors. Looks like a recipe for success to me. An older Batman needs an older seasoned veteran. Orlando Bloom? Come on! Wes Bentley? I can just see a Justice League film piggy backed by Henry Cavill and Wesley Bentley. Not going to cut it. Sure there were other guys out there like Josh Brolin who would’ve been great casting choices, but Ben Affleck is no slouch. Let’s wait until we at the very least see him in the bat suit before we pass judgement.
