CineSportsTalk vs MLB Network: 2015 Top 10 Second Basemen

Share Button

Every year MLB Network runs down their list of “Top 10 Right Now” at each position. They do it a few different ways. First, they use their machine called the “Shredder.” The Shredder takes all of the human factor out of it and goes based solely on numbers alone. They rank each position in that manner and use both offensive numbers as well as defensive numbers. Then the host of the show, Brian Kenny, gets his chance to count them down and then the special guest host for that particular countdown gets their say.

We will start with the Shredder, Brian Kenny and the special guest host and then move on to Steve, Scott and the Sportz Nutt from CineSportsTalk! Here we go and let us know what you think!

Steve’s Top 10

10. Scooter Gennett

Scooter

His first name is Scooter. Did you really want me to leave him off this list?

9. Kolten Wong

Kolten Wong

Mr. Wong has the ability to soar up this list in time for next season. Until now, I just need to see it happen.

8. Howie Kendrick

Kendrick

Howie/Howard has been consistent over the years and now he moves over to that other Los Angeles team. Gone are the days when people thought he would contend for a batting crown, but he is still someone I wouldn’t mind having at 2nd base.

7. Daniel Murphy

Murphy

The model of consistency. He has been one of the few bright spots on a very dull Mets team. As the Mets try to turn things around, this might be Murphy’s last season with them.

6. Jason Kipnis

Jason Kipnis

I am ranking Kipnis ahead of Murphy strictly on potential and upside. We have seen what Murphy can do, but we might not have seen what Kipnis can do just yet.

5. Brian Dozier

Dozier

The name says it all. You might just doze off with the name, but this man has talent and he deserves a top 5 ranking in 2015.

4. Dustin Pedroia

DP

Listen, if the laser show can stay healthy in Beantown this year he might be looking at some big numbers. That lineup is revamped and looking good.

3. Ian Kinsler

Kinsler

He is a healthy man now! Easy Tiger fans (and those that own him in fantasy baseball) I didn’t just jinx him. At least I hope not. Kinsler is a beast and absolutely deserves a top 3 ranking.

2. Jose Altuve

Altuve

This guy can rake and run. I think his average comes back down to earth a bit – although still over .300. He is one of a few bright spots on what could be the up and coming Houston Astros.

1. Robinson Cano

cano

I don’t care where he goes or about his 2nd half slump last year, he is still the best in the business at the position he plays.

Scott’s Top 10

10. Ben Zobrist

Zobrist

ZORRILLA IS GETTING UP THERE, BUT HIS MULTIPLE POSITION ELIGIBILITY MAKES HIM A GOOD PICK UP IN THE LATER ROUNDS.

9. Dee Gordon

Dee Gordon

DEE GORDON HAD A COMING OUT PARTY LAST SEASON AS A STOLEN BASE MACHINE.  HE SHOULD BE A GREAT FIT WITH THE MARLINS.

8. Kolten Wong

Kolten Wong

ANOTHER PLAYER READY TO MAKE THE JUMP UP THE RANKINGS THIS SEASON. COULD BE A STEAL IN THE LATER ROUNDS.

7. Brian Dozier

Dozier

DOZIER IS A 20/20 THREAT THAT DOESN’T BRING MUCH ELSE. MORE VALUE IN A POINTS LEAGUE.

6. Jason Kipnis

Jason Kipnis

WHICH JASON KIPNIS WILL WE SEE THIS YEAR? THE TALENT IS THERE, HE JUST HAS TO BE MORE CONSISTENT.

5. Dustin Pedroia

DP

WILL PRODUCE IN A STACKED RED SOX LINE UP.

4. Ian Kinsler

Kinsler

THE PAST COUPLE HAVE SEASONS HAVE HELPED KINSLER SHED THE “INJURY PRONE” TAG AS HE HAS CONSISTENTLY PRODUCED. CANT GO WRONG HERE.

3. Anthony Rendon

Anthony Rendon

MULTIPLE POSITION ELIGIBILITY HELP RENDON FLY UP THE RANKINGS. THE ULTIMATE BOOM OR BUST PLAYER.

2. Jose Altuve

Altuve

ALTUVE WAS A STUD LAST SEASON. I HAVE ZERO ARGUMENT IF YOU TAKE HIM OVER CANO. I JUST NEED TO SEE IT ONE MORE TIME.

1. Robinson Cano

cano

THIS MIGHT BE HIS LAST YEAR AT THE TOP OF MY PRESEASON RANKINGS. YOU COULD ARGUE THAT HE SHOULDN’T BE NUMBER 2 BECAUSE…

Sportz Nutt’s Top 10

10. Daniel Murphy

Murphy

The injury to start the year hurts (not just physically, but his value), however, I’ll back him as a top 10 guy.

9. Kolten Wong

Kolten Wong

He is an important part of the offense in St. Louis, and will need to come through. Not sure if he can, but we shall see.

8. Mookie Betts

Betts

Love the name, the team and the potential for greatness.

7. Dee Gordon

Dee Gordon

Not a huge supporter of Dee, as much as others are, but he will steal a TON of bases.

6. Dustin Pedroia

DP

He might be older, but he will still be a top 2B, albeit with reduced numbers from his glory days.

5. Jason Kipnis

Jason Kipnis

He will be healthy and ready to go this season. I expect big things from Kipnis.

4. Brian Dozier

Dozier

Young, talented, and has power, he will continue that trend and knock out 30 this season.

3. Ian Kinsler

Kinsler

Quietly, he put up some strong numbers last season, and will probably continue that trend this season.

2. Jose Altuve

Altuve

He was out of this world last year. This season he’ll be flying high, but in the earth’s sky.

1. Robinson Cano

cano

Some thought he underperformed last season, but I personally thought he did more than expected. He should get better as it’s another year in the same park and he’s got a better lineup.
