Top 10 is back again to bring you reading pleasure once again. What we do is come up with a topic, come up with our own lists, and combine them to make a consensus Top 10. This week we look forward to John Wick 3: Parabellum and decided to look at 3rd installments of a franchise. There are many good and equally as bad options, so this was an interesting list. Here we go!

10. Die Hard: With a Vengeance

We begin with one of everyone’s favorite action franchises third installment in Die Hard: With a Vengeance whose title is weirdly worded but, who cares? This one sees the introduction of Samuel L. Jackson and the always menacing Jeremy Irons. How can those additions not make for a great film? Is it the best in the series? Not at all, but it is a solid one and one Jackson himself said he watches all the time.

9. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

We go to a holiday film for our next selection in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. It’s a goofy, easy humor type of film that many people enjoy, and it brings a smile every Christmas season. My family watches this every year as a tradition but as for myself, the humor just isn’t for me. That’s not to throw shade, it’s just not for me but based on how many people are involved in similar traditions, I can see how it made it on to the list.

8. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Here we go with our next film in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the consensus is this is the best film in the franchise with the incredible Alfonso Cuaron directing. Though I have never seen the Potter film (yes, I know), overall it still holds as the number one fan favorite.

7. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

Next up we have another fantasy franchise that went out with a bang in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The Lord of the Rings franchise was massively successful and really is a bookmark in franchise filmmaking. When the third one came out, people were incredibly excited, and they went out on top. Not only did they succeed box office wise, but it also won an insane number of Oscars including best picture. Can’t go out better than that.

6. Thor: Ragnarok

Our first installment from the Marvel franchise is at number six in Thor: Ragnarok. What a huge surprise this film was. The first two films were very lackluster and rank in the bottom half of MCU films. Coming to Ragnarok, people were not that excited, but they proved us all wrong. They completely altered the character for the better and made him both funny and relatable instead of this overly done god. Now Thor is one of the most popular characters and Ragnarok is responsible for that.

5. Captain America: Civil War

Another Marvel series comes in at number five in Captain America: Civil War. This is really an Avengers film, but at its heart, there is a tremendous Captain America story. We see the consequences of the Avengers choices tear them apart to an almost irreparable state where it affects them for movies to come. Captain America’s conflict where he must decide between his best friends is heartbreaking to watch and when Iron Man loses it at the end, you completely buy it. There are so many layers to this film and it is an incredible journey.

4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

One of the most iconic characters in cinema history comes in at number four in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. This one was such a fascinating journey to watch. They introduce Sean Connery to go back and forth with Jones and how would that not work? Coming off Temple of Doom, this franchise was iffy, but they saved it with Last Crusade. It ended the trilogy in a strong way and were glad there wasn’t a fourth to ruin the franchise (at least not one we will acknowledge).

3. Star Wars Episode VI- Return of the Jedi

Starting off the top three we go to what is maybe the biggest franchise of all time in Return of the Jedi. The third Star Wars film wrapped up the original trilogy and delivered on exactly what the fans wanted. We got to see the epic showdown between Luke, Darth Vader, and the Emperor in what we thought was a finale. Regardless of the sequel trilogy, Return of the Jedi brought the story to a great point and is still beloved to this day.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

Remember when I said Star Wars may be the biggest franchise ever? That’s because the MCU is here to challenge it and they did with their third Avengers film Avengers: Infinity War. This film was epic on a scale never seen before. We saw characters from multiple franchises come together and fight what I am starting to believe is the greatest villain in cinematic history. It should not have worked but it did, and then they topped themselves in the next Avengers film. This franchise is unstoppable right now and this third film is rightfully in the Top 10.

1.Toy Story 3

To top it all off, our number one third film in a franchise is Toy Story 3. People tend to forget this is a trilogy, for now. Yeah, we have a fourth installment coming but this trilogy is perfect, and the third film is the best. This film made everyone remember what it was like to have our favorite toys and made us want to play with them again. We feel connected with Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and even the Potato because it is such a well-crafted franchise, and one that will forever live on in our hearts that our children will enjoy from generation to generation.

Well there you have it! The Top 10 3rd Installments in a Franchise. There are tons of options to choose from. Trilogies are tough and can be divisive but when one hits it lasts forever. What does your list look like? Let us know below and we will see you next time with another fresh list.
