Welcome back to the weekly Top 10 list. Each week we come up with a topic, go create our separate lists, and then come together to create a top 10 consensus. This week with Red Sparrow coming out and Jennifer Lawrence looking like a total badass, we decided to count down the Top 10 female action characters. There have been many women who have broken the mold and become stars over the years so this was a very difficult list to make. Here is what we came up with!

10. Rita – Edge of Tomorrow

Starting off the list is Rita from Edge of Tomorrow. This movie was such a surprise hit and Emily Blunt is a huge reason why. From the moment we saw her, she was instantly a powerful force. Emily Blunt completely stole the movie from the biggest movie star ever in Tom Cruise. She is terrific in the role and will hopefully be just as great in the sequel. If you have not see Edge of Tomorrow, do yourself a favor and seek it out.

9. Selene – Underworld Franchise

At number nine we have Selene from the Underworld franchise. This is a franchise with five movies now and Selene has been apart of four of them. Kate Beckinsale has been such a strong female in all these films and helped carry this franchise. Even though the films she has been in have not been great, or even good, she still gives a good performance in all of them. Hopefully she can show how strong she is in another franchise.

8. Black Widow – The MCU

Coming in at number eight we have Black Widow A.K.A. Natasha Romanoff from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She has been a powerful force in many of these films including Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. Scarlett Johannsson has been great in all of these films and has developed the character so much in films where she is not the lead. Fans are now clamoring for her to have her own movie and I am certainly on board with that!

7. Hit Girl – Kick-Ass

At number seven we have a young woman who showed us all how to really kick ass in Kick-Ass. Hit Girl played by Chloe Grace Moretz is the sidekick in the Kick-Ass films who stole both movies from the lead. She earns a spot on this list because of her fighting and leadership skills. She is not afraid to do anything in these two films and shows the lead how to be a hero. Hopefully we can see her in one more film.

6. Princess Leia Organa – Star Wars

Just missing out on the top five is Leia Organa from the Star Wars franchise. She is probably the most recognizable character on this list and rightfully deserves recognition. She was one of the first strong female leads in film history and Carrie Fischer deserves so much credit for this. She inspired girls everywhere to strive to be powerful and continued to do so up until her role in 2017’s The Last Jedi. Sadly, she is no longer with us, but her legacy will forever live on in film history.

5. Trinity – The Matrix

Starting off the top five we have Trinity from The Matrix. This was the film that caught everyone by surprise by just how revolutionary it was for the time. Carrie-Anne Moss was absolutely terrific in this role and was as much of a surprise as the film was itself. She nearly stole the movie from Keanu Reeves which is a tough thing to do. Although the sequels were not as good as the original, The Matrix is always going to be a revolutionary film with awesome characters.

4. The Bride – Kill Bill

Coming in at number four we have The Bride from the two Kill Bill films. Uma Thurman was electric in these films as The Bride who just tore up the screen. She was a powerful force in both films who was stronger than the men she was going up against. These are very violent films, but it is rare to see a woman lead a violent film. Uma Thurman now is looked at as a strong force both on and off the screen and The Bride is a big reason why.

3. Imperator Furiosa – Mad Max: Fury Road

At number three is Imperator Furiosa from 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. This is considered one of the greatest action films of all time and Charlize Theron is a huge reason why. What was so surprising here was that we went into this film expecting Max to lead the movie when in fact Furiosa took over and led the way. Charlize did such an amazing job in this role as someone who could stick up for herself and make her own decisions. It was a pleasant and welcome surprise to have her be the star of this movie.

2. Sarah Connor – The Terminator

Just missing out on the top spot is Sarah Connor from The Terminator and Terminator 2. She is one of the most iconic characters of all time and is portrayed so well by Linda Hamilton. The weight of the world is put on her back in these films and she is able to stand tall and command attention in both. Although I am not the biggest fan of James Cameron, he did give us two strong female leads in a time when it was not common to do so. Sarah Connor is always going to be a strong character and we will be seeing her again in the upcoming Terminator reboot.

1.Ripley – Alien franchise

At the top spot we have the famous Ripley played by Sigourney Weaver. Did you expect anyone else to hold the top two spots? When this topic was selected, these two were at the top of almost everyone’s list. Ripley stands above however because of her absolute power and how much force she brings to the character. She was great in Alien and then elevated that in Aliens. Her character kind of declined in the subsequent films, but her work in the first two of the franchise are unmatched. She has one of the most recognizable lines of movie history. She is worthy of the top spot.

So, there you have it! The Top 10 female action characters of all time. There will most likely be a lot of debate about this list, but we welcome that. Go ahead and let us know what you think and also what other lists you’d like to see us tackle. We will see you next week when the Top 10 list returns!
