Top 10 is back again to bring you reading pleasure once again. What we do is come up with a topic, come up with our own lists, and combine them to make a consensus Top 10. This week we decided to move away from movies and celebrate one of the greatest shows of all time; Game of Thrones. We are counting down the Top 10 Game of Thrones characters. They make the show what it is, so it is incredibly hard to choose ten, but we did our best and here are our choices.

10. Petyr “Little Finger” Baelish

Beginning our list is a character who met his end recently in ‘Little Finger’. Aidan Gillen is that one actor who is great in everything, yet no one knows his name and he really got his start on Game of Thrones. He was a schemer who always had his own interests at the forefront and was able to convince others to follow along with him. His schemes, lies and secret machinations eventually caught up to him and lead to his demise but his journey was invariably twisted.

9. Sansa Stark

In the ninth spot is a woman with the last name we will see much of; Sansa Stark. She has had quite the journey to get to where her character ends up. I remember everyone was annoyed by her at first just being the pretty girl who complained a lot. She went through turmoil with Joffrey and Cersei then Little Finger and Ramsey Bolton which she overcame. This eventually led to her being Queen of the North and a character some were wanting to take the Iron Throne at the end. She made great choices that would make her father proud if not always displaying the honor he was famous for.

8. Eddard “Ned” Stark

Speaking of her father, next up we have a surprising choice in Ned Stark. Ned Stark is really the character that set the tone for Game of Thrones. He looked like he was going to be the main character for the entire show but by the end of the first season, he was beheaded, and it changed everything. It goes to show how much of a legacy he left behind where he died so early on and yet sits here at number eight. It is unfortunate we couldn’t get more of him, but it made sense why he had to die.

7. Jaime Lannister

A common theme within Game of Thrones is transformative character arcs and that is epitomized by Jaime Lannister at number seven. Jamie was the pretty boy, cocky jerk at the beginning that we all despised but over the course of the show, his humanity redeemed him. He was good by the end, even if he did go running back to his sister.

6. Jon Snow

Number six is a character who lost a lot of goodwill by the end of the show. Jon Snow was the all good hero that we all rooted for and wanted on the throne by the end. He always saw the good in people and made risky decisions for the better of everyone else. By the end, he became a boring yes man who really wasn’t given much to do. He was the rightful heir to the throne but didn’t want it so his character kind of fizzled out by the end. People still love him, but he was always too ordinary for me and that’s why he sits outside of the top five.

5. Sandor “The Hound” Clegane

Next up we have a character who went out like a champ in Sandor Clegane or ‘The Hound’. The Hound is a knight who lost his way during all the political maneuvering. I believe, his journey with Arya is what transformed him into a character people cared for (see Jaime Lannister). He had this rugged persona with a good heart that shone when it came to Arya. He always pointed out the obvious and ridiculousness of fighting. His fight with his brother, in the end, was tremendous and the only true way for him to go.

4. Daenerys Targaryen

At number four we have who should be number one in Daenerys Targaryen. Daenerys had the most fascinating journey of all the characters in the show, where we see her go from being sold off and abused to becoming the most powerful person in the entire kingdom. She frees slaves and is the mother of three dragons who inspires those who follow her and has a good heart. She does become a dictator by the end, but she never goes crazy. She lost everything in her life and when she finally saw an opening to the throne, she showed no mercy and took her shot. It was hard to watch, but she is still my favorite and will always have a legacy on the show.

3. Cersei Lannister

Number three is one of the most manipulative yet interesting characters in television history; Cersei Lannister. Cersei was such a great character because you always knew she was bad, but she somehow had moments of humanity where you thought maybe she could make the turn. The ‘shame’ moment was very difficult to watch and when she gets revenge, you are strangely resigned to it. However, the way she treats her younger brother is brutal which makes us ultimately hate her. It is a shame she was relegated to a side character in the final season.

2. Tyrion Lannister

Cersei’s younger brother actually comes in at number two. Tyrion Lannister is basically 1a along with the final choice. Peter Dinklage made this cocky philanderer into a smart and calculated survivor who always found himself ahead in most situations. He had a sense of humanity and reality that most other characters lacked so you always thought he would be alright. He basically sits on the throne now and I don’t think anyone has a problem with that considering he has been the most consistently brilliant character throughout the show.

1.Arya Stark

Finally, the number one choice for the best Game of Thrones character is Arya Stark. Arya became that badass we hoped for and her arc throughout the series was extraordinary. She learns an ability to change faces and goes on a revenge tour which gives us so many fist bump moments. It all concludes with her taking out the greatest threat of all in the Night King and it has to be the best moment in the final season. We would all love to see more of her, unfortunately, it does not seem like that is going to happen.

Well, there we go, our first Top 10 list involving television. What is your list of Top 10 Game of Thrones characters like? Who are we missing? Justice for Jorah? There has never been a show with this many great characters, so this list was anything but easy. Hopefully, the spinoffs are just as good, and we will see you next time with another list.
