Welcome back to the weekly Top 10 list. Each week we come up with a topic, go create our separate lists, and then come together to create a top 10 consensus. This week with The Disaster Artist coming out, we said there’s no better time than now to do Top 10 James Franco movies. Now this is movies he has been in, not necessarily starred in.  There are many great ones to choose from so here is our list.

10. True Story

To start off our list we have True Story. It is a small film that came out back in 2015 about a reporter whose identity is stolen by a man who is in prison. From there we get a psychological cat and mouse story with new twists after each layer is peeled off. Starring James Franco and Jonah Hill, this is a very underrated movie that not many saw, but should check out.

9. Milk

At number nine, we have the film Milk. It is the story about an openly gay activist who becomes California’s first openly gay elected official. James Franco is in this film, but the stars are Josh Brolin and Sean Penn who give terrific performances. It was nominated and won multiple Oscars, and is an enjoyable watch.

8. The Pineapple Express

Next, we have The Pineapple Express. This film, about a process server and his drug dealer on the run, was a big surprise back in 2008. This is one of Franco and Rogen’s earlier team-ups with many more to come. It is a hilarious stoner comedy, and is loved by most who have seen it.

7. Spring Breakers

Coming in at number seven we have Spring Breakers. This film is about four college girls who rob a restaurant in order to fund their spring break vacation. They are arrested and then bailed out by a drug dealer played by Franco. This is probably Franco’s weirdest and most fascinating performance to date. His character Alien is so engaging, and makes the movie better than what it is.

6. The Night Before

At number six we have one of the best Christmas movie of the past decade. The Night Before is about three friends who go out on Christmas Eve every year and are doing it one last time because they all have their separate lives to get to. It is a hilarious and heartwarming film to watch and will become a Christmas classic in the future. Franco’s role is small, but it is one of the best in the film.

5. This is the End

Starting off our top five is another comedy in This is the End. This is the movie about actors playing themselves who are having a party when the apocalypse happens, and chaos ensues. When I first saw this movie, I thought it was hilarious. To have these actors playing themselves is genius, and it is executed perfectly. There are not many films like this.

4. Spiderman

At number four, we have one of James Franco’s earlier role in Sam Raimi’s Spiderman. One of the movies that really started the comic book craze, it helped launched the genre as we know it today. James Franco plays Peter’s best friend Harry Osborne. This is a great superhero flick that still holds up fifteen years later.

3. 127 Hours

At number three we have a very controversial placement of a terrific film. 127 Hours is the story about a climber whose arm gets stuck in a rock and what he must do in order to survive. This is without a doubt Franco’s best performance, and landed him and Academy Award nomination. This is a fascinating story about survival and a great watch.

2. Spiderman 2

At the penultimate spot we have Spiderman 2. This movie is the sequel to our number four film and was a big step up from the original. All the performances are great here, and we get to see the second step of Franco’s progression as Harry Osbourne after the tragedy in his family. It is considered an all time comic book movie, and will always live on.

1. Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Our number one film is Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This is the first film in the new Apes trilogy, and the start to one of the greatest trilogy’s ever. James Franco gives an innocent and honest performance here, and his relationship with Caeser is one you root for. This film helped revolutionize visual effects, and is worthy of the top spot on the list.

So, there you have it, the Top 10 James Franco movies. Do you agree or disagree? Are we missing anything? Go ahead and let us know. I’m almost certain The Disaster Artist will make it onto this list in the future. See you all next week when we return with a new list.
