by Kyle Arango,
Welcome Back to the weekly Top 10 segment where a subject is chosen to discuss, and we count down the Top 10 movies based on that topic. It may not always be ten and the number of people contributing to the list will change week to week, but it will always be fun and warrant discussion. The year is now coming to an end and this is one of my favorite parts of the year, pointing out all the movies people forgot came out this year. They are the “Oh yeah” movies and here are the contenders for 2018
10. White Boy Rick
Ah, “White Boy Rick”. That movie where Matthew McConaughey played a dad I think with a brand-new actor. Everyone wanted to see it and then no one did and now this will probably be the last time it is ever mentioned anywhere.
9. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Now this one is hilarious. “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”, a film I actually enjoyed, is still in theaters and I still think everyone forgot it was even a movie that came out. The next time nutcracker is mentioned is when your grandmother comes to you with tickets to the Nutcracker ballet at your local middle school, not about this movie. Good thing Disney is dominating with everything else.
8. The Happytime Murders
Remember that trailer the came out in front of “Deadpool 2” that had everyone just gasping. Yeah, that’s about the only thing people recall about The Happytime Murders. That raunchy puppet movie that came and went like the fart it was. Lucky that “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” came out because everyone forgot Melissa McCarthy has two subpar movies this year up until that, but you probably forgot the other film as well.
7. Sicario: Day of the Soldado
Now this one did not even hit me until just recently. I was at my local Best Buy on Black Friday and saw this on sale and said to myself “oh yeah, we had a “Sicario” sequel this year”. Remember this was supposed to be the Summer of Josh Brolin and then this came out and it was over like that. Will we get a Sicario 3? Maybe, and we will probably forget that one too.
6. Tomb Raider
This one actually angers me that people forgot because I very much enjoyed it. “Tomb Raider” was remade this year with Alicia Vikander in the role and she made the best video game adaptation ever that no one remembers. The narrative is still that all video game movies are terrible, when I thought that conversation ended with “Tomb Raider”. Back to the drawing board I guess, the title still goes to you “Mortal Combat”.
5. The Equalizer 2
Wait a minute, we also got an “Equalizer” sequel this year too. This movie has Denzel Washington being a complete badass and I forgot about it. I saw this film and cannot tell you a single thing about the plot. Just give us an Equalizer vs John Wick movie and call it a day.
4. Isle of Dogs
I am glad we forgot about this film, no one seems to know that a Wes Anderson movie came out this year that was completely mediocre. Even people who think everything he touches is great forgot about this one. Personally, I wasn’t a fan and will probably never watch those stinky dogs again. When people rank Wes Anderson films, they will forget this one exists.
3. Game Night
This one might really hit people because it was the biggest surprise for me this year in “Game Night”. I loved “Tag” (don’t forget that one), but we had the greatest comedy of the past five years come out this year and everyone has forgotten about it. I heard people say they thought it came out last year just recently which shows you how much people are sleeping on this film.
2. Ant-Man and the Wasp
Now this really just tears my heart out and rips it to shreds but number two is “Ant-Man and the Wasp”. I didn’t even want to put it on the list but wanted to remind people they forgot about this. loved this movie and before it even came out I knew this is where it was heading. Marvel has become so huge that a small, contained story just wipes from their memories. Did they not go to enough planets for your enjoyment? Too little alien life? Not enough dusting? This is one of Marvel’s gems that when people rank their superhero movies at the end of the year for 2018, they will probably forget about this.
1. Mission: Impossible Fallout
Now this film was destined to be on this list before it was even announced just by the franchise it exists in. “Mission Impossible Fallout” was one of, if not the greatest action film ever made, and can you even tell me what the opening scene was? Next time you are having a discussion about the greatest franchises ever, bring up “Mission Impossible” and I guarantee you the first words they will say are “Oh yeah”. This franchise will always exist in that realm and I love it.
Well there you have it! The Top 10 “Oh yeah, that came out this year” Movies. What did you think of the list? Are there even more forgettable movies that I didn’t mention? Let us know in the comments and we will see you next time!
