Fernando Talks UFC 216: Ferguson vs. Lee

The UFC is back tonight with a fight card with heavy hitters and a champion who seeks to break a record set by Anderson Silva (the greatest of all time). On the main card we will see two championship fights. The first being the flyweight division where Demetrious Johnson looks to make his 11th title defense while Ray Borg seeks to make the biggest upset in UFC history. The main event of the night will be a fight between two top lightweights fighting for the interim title and what makes this fight so interesting is the amount of hate they have for one another that promises to be non-stop action. I’m looking forward to this card mainly for the title fight because I know they are not going to disappoint. I understand it’s not the most stacked card but I think the main event alone is worth it.

Fabricio Werdum vs. Derrick Lewis is a heavyweight match that will get the winner one step closer to the title and the loser will be sent back to the end of the line with 2 consecutive losses. Both fighters have something to prove in this fight because they didn’t perform well in their last fight, especially Lewis who gassed out against Mark Hunt who took advantage and won by TKO. This fight is not going the distance which makes it fun to watch but keep in mind that sometimes Werdum fights are little boring, but I doubt it this time since he is coming off a loss and really wants to fight for the title again. Werdum has all the advantages in this fight skill wise and for him to win he needs to outlast Derrick’s assault in the opening round then take him down until he gasses out and when he does Werdum being a high level black belt in Jiu Jitsu will either submit him or win by TKO via ground and pound. Derrick has 3 advantages in this fight, he is explosive, younger and more powerful. Werdum is a slow starter, slow and leaves opening because of it but derrick needs to take advantage of this and attack him from the beginning before Fabricio figures out how to control Derrick because Werdum has a high fighting IQ. My prediction is Fabricio Werdum via TKO in the 3rd round.

Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg is for the flyweight division championship title where Johnson plans to extend his title defenses to 11 and Borg is looking to win the biggest upset in UFC history. Demetrious fighting Ray because there in literally no one else because he has cleaned out the division, this fight will probably not go passed the 2nd round. Johnson has looked unstoppable lately especially submitting Wilson Reis in the 3rd round, I see him doing the same thing to Ray in this fight. Borg is an all-around fighter who is good at everything but not great. For Ray to win this fight I think he needs to pressure Johnson and take chances to create opportunities, being this his first 5 round fight I don’t think he has the stamina to go the distance because he missed weight 3 out of his last 5 fights. My prediction is Johnson wins via submission in the 3rd round.

Tony Ferguson vs. Kevin Lee is one of the fights you can’t feel anything but excitement because they are both young, explosive, in their prime, they hate each other and to top it off they will be fighting for the interim title who will probably fight Conor, which means a big paycheck for the winner. Tony has one 9 fights in a row against some of the hardest opponents in the division. His last fight he won a dominate five round fight against former champion Rafael de Anjos. For Tony to win this fight he needs to use his range, out box lee, and test his Jiu JItsu. I believe Ferguson is too much for Lee who hasn’t faced a fighter who never stops attacking and has unlimited gas tank. Kevin has won 9 out of his 11 fights, in his last fight against Michael Chiesa he looked unstoppable making Michael tap in the first round and backing up all the trash talk he was telling him before the fight. Kevin is more explosive with great fighting IQ, I’ve seen an improvement every time he fights. For Lee to win tonight he will need to pressure Tony and have him fight going backwards because tony has proven to be to lethal with his boxing and forward pressure. Once Lee has him on the cage he needs to land has many shots as he can to be able to take Tony down to ground and pound to a TKO, I don’t recommend playing around with Ferguson Jiu Jitsu because he is a high level black belt with a lot of submission wins. My prediction for this fight is Tony Ferguson by decision four rounds to one.

This event will be held in the T-mobile Arena located in Paradise, Nevada where we should all send prayers or help to the victims who suffered from a coward with a gun. We saw the worst in humanity when the coward started shooting. I don’t know the reason or meaning for his behavior but what we did see the best of humanity where all types of people color and race help one another from death, injury or just trying to get them to safety. They all proved how strong Americans are, how we come together in the time of need and show no matter what evil is out there it will never break us!
