Sony Interactive Entertainment had been under the management of Andrew House since 1990, and today it was announced that House would be departing the company later this year. He passes the mantle to John Kodera, but will remain as chairman and director until the end of the year.

House hasn’t stated where his next opportunity lies or what he’ll be doing, but he commented that he has the desire to pursue new challenges. “PlayStation has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years but with the business having achieved record-breaking success, now seemed to be the right time for me to pursue new challenges,” said House.

House joined Sony back in 1990 and helped with the original PlayStation system release back in 1995. It wasn’t until 2011 however, that House stepped into the role as PlayStation President, and then President Kaz Hirai went to run Sony entirely.

House had a massive impact on the company when he was in charge during the release of the PlayStation 4 back in 2014. The PS4, which is on its way to hitting the 78 million units sold mark, was a monumental success for House and the company in general.

House added, “I shall always treasure the friendships and people that have made SIE such a wonderful place to work. I’m also grateful to PlayStation fans and gamers around the world for their loyalty and support. John [Kodera] and the team at SIE are world-class and I know the future of PlayStation is very bright.”

House’s successor, (John Kodera) isn’t a stranger to the role he’s taking in the company, as he’s been at Sony for almost as long as House was. He started working in the electronics and IT branches of the business before going on the run Sony Network Entertainment in 2013, and worked with House very frequently.

“It’s a great honor to take on the role of President and CEO, SIE, and I’m very grateful to Kaz and Andy for the trust and faith they have shown in me. I intend to build on the amazing progress Andy has made enhancing the PlayStation brand and expanding the game and network services business, and will strive to further strengthen the unique value proposition we are able to offer via the PlayStation platform,” Kodera said.
