Fernando Runs Down UFC 211

The UFC is back tonight with the best card of the year, plus we have two championship fights that promise to be wars inside the octagon. We will be able to see a lot of top contenders fight one another and see who is next for a title shot. I will recommend not missing this event because all the fighters in the main card have never let me down in a fight always performing and going for a finish. What I’m most excited for is the two title fights because it looks like they will both be back and forth fights.

Frankie Edgar vs. Yair Rodriguez is the first fight in the main card and it’s an important fight because we will find out how good Yair is and if Edgar is still a top contender or a gate keeper. Yair is the taller fighter and has the reach advantage both in arms and legs, those are his advantages and he must use them to win against Edgar. Yair needs to follow the same game plan he did with BJ Penn which was keep distance and use his leg kicks to hurt his opponent and to land better hand combinations. Frankie is a great boxer but it’s not going to work against this type of fight because of the reach in Rodriguez arms and legs, Edgar needs to look for the takedown and try to either submit or grind out a win. My prediction for this fight will be TKO win for Yair Rodriguez in the 2nd round and that hurts to write that because I’m a big Edgar fan.

Demian Maia vs. Jorge Masvidal is an interesting fight because it’s grappler vs striker and the winner will probably face the champion next. Maia is the best grappler in the UFC when he takes someone down they are in trouble they either get submitted or get dominated. This will be his game plan against such a good striker who ground game is good but not on the same level as Maia. Jorge needs to keep this fight on the feet and use his movement to stay away from a takedown or a clinch. I can see Jorge out boxing Maia because Maia doesn’t have good food word, he has gotten better throughout the years but it’s not good enough against Jorge. I can’t wait to see this fight it’s hard to choose because they are both good fighter that I love watching but I see Demian winning by submission in the 3rd round.

Now time for the co-main event for the women’s strawweight division Joanna Jedrzejczyk (c) vs. Jessica Andrade. Get ready because we are in for a treat we have two fighters who love to strike and always looking for the knockout! Joanna is one of the best fighters in the world because she has an amazing all-around game and now she is training in American Top Team where they are perfecting her game. In this fight, I would love to see her out strike Jessica and use her movement more and take lesser chances because Jessica is very heavy handed. If you see Jessica she is basically a ball of muscle. She is very strong and when she hits her opponents they either get hurt or run away. In order for Jessica to win she needs to find her opening and land heavy shot on Joanna because she will not beat her in a striking game, if that doesn’t work she needs to use her Jiu Jitsu to submit her or grind out a win. Even though Joanna’s weak point is the ground game I’m interested to see how far she has come since training at American Top Team. My prediction is Joanna will remain champion and win by Decision.

Finally, it is the Heavyweight rematch we all been waiting for between Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos. I can’t wait to see this fight because the first fight between them was a war. I don’t expect this to happen again, but you never know! Last time they fought Stipe was a contender but now he is the heavyweight champion and he has more experience and confidence. Stipe has great striking abilities but Junior’s power and striking is better. Stipe has better cardio and he should use that towards his advantage against Junior who tends to fade the longer he fights. I would like to see Stipe force Junior to wrestle and grapple more than stay and strike with him. Junior is the better fighter but what he does lack is the cardio and game plan, you can see those errors happen in his fights with Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. Junior should keep it on the feet and take his time with punches just not always go for the kill because that’s how he gasses himself out and loses. He needs to use his footwork more and try to out box Stipe who’s boxing isn’t as good. I do hope this fight is a war like last time but I think Junior will win by TKO in the 3rd round.

Well those are my prediction for the UFC best card of the year so far. Below are the final weigh in numbers. I hope you enjoy!
