Fernando Talk UFC 213: Nunes vs. Shevchenko 2

The UFC organization never fails to put an amazing card for international fight week. I’m super pumped for this event even though the Robbie Lawler vs Donald Cerrone fight was pulled, but it was rescheduled for UFC 214 which lands on my birthday so all is forgiven. We are going to witness two title fights in the main card one is for the Women’s Bantamweight division in a rematch between the two women who turned it to a grudge match because they can’t stop talking trash about one another and the other title fight is for the interim title for the middle weight division to claim who is the actual number one contender. If for some reason you can’t afford to go out or pay for the PPV event don’t worry you can still get to see fights which will be available free on UFC Fight Pass and Fox Sports 1, sometimes the preliminary fights are better.

Anthony Pettis vs. Jim Miller is a fight between two great veterans of the lightweight division who are trying to stay relevant and keep their title shot hopes alive. Both are coming off a loss where they both got dominated by their opponents, the loser probably won’t get cut by the UFC because they are exciting fighters and have done a lot for the company, but they will be in hot water. Style wise this is a striker vs. grappler scenario which isn’t the best style match up for Anthony because it’s been proven his ground game is not up to par to his striking, he has lost 4 of his 6 losses to grapplers who can hold him down and grind out a win. This will be Jim’s key to a win over the former lightweight champion. I’m looking forward to seeing if he can implement that in his game plan because he is a strong submission fighter with good striking. If Anthony can stop the take downs and just fight from the outside with his striking that will be his key to winning. My prediction is Jim Miller by Decision (unanimous).

Fabricio Werdum vs. Alistair Overeem is basically a number 1 contender fight between two fighters who will be fighting for the third time. In the first fight Fabricio won by submission and Alistair won the second fight by Decision. They are pretty much even in skills level and both have improved with each fight, Alistair lost his last title fight due to lack of making the right decision when he was winning the fight and ended up getting KO by the current champion Stipe. Alistair improved by KO top contender Mark Hunt with better game planning and making better decisions. Fabricio lost his title fight due to poor game plan which was strike with a striker and once he got hit and rocked he just decided to go straight at him which ended with him getting KO. He later fought Travis Browne where he fought like Alistair making better decisions and having a good game plan. Both have different strengths – Alistair being striking and Fabricio being Jiu JItsu, but they are decent in the others strength so it makes it an interesting fight I kind of wish it was a five-round fight. This fight is hard to predict but I’m going with Fabricio by Decision because he has the better chin, durability and skill set.

Yoel Romero Vs Robert Whittaker is the fight that I recommend you do not blink! This a fight between to KO artists who are wanting nothing more than to prove they are the number one contender and want to show Michael Bisping the current middle weight champion who’s boss. Since this is a five-round fight I believe Robert has the advantage if the fight goes to the championship rounds, striking and power I think they are pretty much even and when it comes to the ground Yoel has the advantage he is a silver Olympic medalist for wrestling. This fight is all about who is willing to act first and implement their game plan. Yoel likes to start slow and seeing that this could be his last chance at a title he better not take that chance in this fight. Robert needs to take advantage that he is 14 years younger, faster and not let Yoel take control of the octagon. My prediction for this fight is Robert TKO in the 2nd or 4th round.

Amanda Nunes vs. Valentina Shevchenko is an excellent fight for the women division to hopefully bring more attention to them and see if we can find someone who can hold the torch like Ronda did before her losses. This will be a rematch but this time it will be a five-round fight and a bag full of pressure, besides being the main event of the biggest card of the year they been talking so much trash about one another it’s crazy trust me when I tell you they’d rather die than lose to one another. Both fighters are strikers with good ground game, Nunes is stronger and has more power in her punches but Valentina has better cardio and footwork with her striking. My prediction for this fight will be Valentina by tko in the 5th round.
