Fernando Talks UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Hunt

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen! Last Saturday’s UFC event was amazing. It lived up to the hype with nine out of twelve fights being finished by TKO or submission. We got to see the end of an era and a new one rising in Max Holloway who finished Aldo by TKO in the third round and we witness why Claudia is the number one contender in the Women strawweight division by destroying Karolina by submission in the first round. Vitor Belfort won by decision and in his post-fight interview announced he will be fighting five more times. The question is should he retire on a win? I’m a big fan of Vitor and I love his fighting style but I believe he should retire based on his recent fights losing by TKO and how powerful these new up and coming fighters are. Sunday is another free event and we have a classic stand up fight which will be between Derrick Lewis who is on a six-fight winning streak trying to extend it to seven with a win from a legend Mark Hunt who is trying to get back into title contention with a win.

Derrick Lewis vs Mark Hunt is the main event you do not want to miss if you’re looking for a KO, TKO or a slug fest. Trust me when I tell you that’s exactly what this fight will be. These two are the type of fighters who always look for the finish and I can’t remember a boring fight from Lewis or Hunt. Lewis is a long-time contender who I feel is one win away from a title shot and if it’s impressive enough he will get the next shot against Stipe Miocic. Besides being heavy handed, Lewis very quick on his feet and he needs to use that ability to catch Hunt and take him down, he has a better ground game than Hunt. Derrick needs to strike with Hunt but can’t get too comfortable because he’s going up against a high-level striker. Hunt is an old school fighter even if he was better on the ground he would always keep it standing and that’s what he is going to do in this fight. He is going to test his power against Lewis and if he can’t be taken down it’s going to be Hunt vs. Silva all over again (if you haven’t seen that fight stop reading this and go on YouTube and see it now!). One clear advantage is that Mark does have the better cardio and experience in five round fights. My prediction for this fight is Mark Hunt by TKO in the fourth round.

Just like the last free event I believe this event will be similar a lot of great fighters who are not well known looking to prove themselves on live TV where millions of people will be watching. The co-main event looks promising and fighters to watch are Ross Pearson, Tim Elliott, Dong Hyun Kim and Henrique Silva. Should be a good night of fights and I hope you enjoy!
