Hump Day Thoughts On Sports & Stuff – 8/20/14

Share

Hey people. Steve here.

It has been a LONG time since I wrote one of these. The last edition of the Hump Day article came on 4/9/14. I spoke about the Ultimate Warrior passing away. That’s how long ago it was. Baseball season was just starting and the world still had Robin Williams. NFL preseason is in full-swing and so is the fantasy football draft season. I have taken part in 2 drafts so far and I have another one tomorrow. So far, so good. I also just had Lasik surgery. Now I can actually see what I am typing in these things so that’s a plus for everyone involved. For those of you that are interested in it, but have not done it for whatever reason – do it. You will NOT regret it. Let’s get on with it…

Johnny Manziel

Enough already. The guy is not that good of a quarterback and he is a royal pain in the ass. He is flicking people off already and he is a 2nd string guy. Brian Hoyer is the starting quarterback on a team that doesn’t really matter. The only thing that Cleveland is looking forward to this year is the return of LeBron James. That is all. They have no reason to be optimistic about the Browns. The only reason why they are relevant at all is because of Johnny Jackass.

Derrick Rose

So Derrick Rose sat out today for Team USA, huh? I wish I could say I was surprised. Are you kidding me with this guy? Isn’t this the same guy that was rumored to have a wonderful workout for Carmelo Anthony when he was visited the Bulls? The man has knee pain and will never be the same. Why is he even thinking about playing for Team USA? He should be relaxing and resting that knee as much as possible. The Bulls should not be allowing this either. They can’t score with the bigger teams out there. They NEED Rose to be at his best and I’m sorry to say that his best is not as good as it once was. Not by a long shot.

Robin Williams

We were all very saddened by the loss of Robin Williams. He entertained us for many years and he will certainly be missed. It is tough and rare for someone to say that they brought pleasure to so many people around the world. The stand up routines and the movies he was in always brought laughter into our homes. Many of us will tune into the Emmy Awards on Monday, August 25th to see the tribute that is being planned by Billy Crystal. It is a sad story and one that is very hard to understand. You never think of someone so funny and so giving to others suffering from depression, but it does happen and we all need to be aware of it.

The Cable Guy is on Netflix and it holds up just fine 18 years later. It’s always disappointing to watch an older movie like this and check out how it did on Rotten Tomatoes to find out it finished at 54%.

Before I go I have to talk about this video. It is called Barely Legal Pawn and it stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Julie Louis-Dreyfus. It is a must see video before the Emmy’s. Cranston and Paul work at a pawn shop where Louis-Dreyfus has brought her Emmy award to pawn. Here is it. Enjoy and I will talk to you all next week!
