The Martian

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crew-mates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel, and helmed by master director Ridley Scott, THE MARTIAN features a star studded cast that includes Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Peña, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Donald Glover. I was so disappointed that I had to miss the screening for Sicario, but I was having a blast in the Dominican Republic on vacation. I will check this one out ASAP.

The Walk

he Walk is the true story of a young dreamer, Philippe Petit, and a band of unlikely recruits who together achieve the impossible: an illegal wire walk in the immense void between the World Trade Center towers. With little more than nerve and blind ambition, Petit and his ragtag crew overcome daunting physical obstacles, betrayals, countless close calls and overwhelming odds to beat the system and execute their mad plan. Scott’s Take

I actually loved Man on a Wire. The story of Philippe Petit is a fascinating one and I’m interested in seeing how technical maestro Robert Zemeckis is at handling the subject matter. Since I’ve seen the other two movies out this weekend, this is the one that will get my attention.

Steve’s Take

I hear people were vomiting at IMAX showings of this one. I can’t wait to see it. A lot of people also told me how eerie it was to see the World Trade Center in a film again.
