The Revenant

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption. THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award (R) winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel). (C) Fox

Scott’s Take

Brilliant. There is no other word to best describe Alejandro G. Inarritu’s follow up to last year’s Best Picture winner Birdman. The Revenant is absolutely brutal and is not for everyone, but not since Braveheart has a movie put it’s foot on my throat for the entire run time. This is a film that must be seen in the biggest theater possible. At some point this weekend I will be seeing this masterpiece again.

Steve’s Take

Life got in the way of me seeing this one at the screening. Write this down as a fact – Steve will be seeing this bad boy this weekend.

The Forest

Against the backdrop of Japan’s Aokigahara forest, where people go to end their lives, an American woman braves the mysterious, uncharted terrain to search for her missing sister.

Scott’s Take

Everyone knows I love horror movies and everyone knows that 99.9 percent of horror movies are garbage. The Forrest starring Natalie Dormer is a horror flick about a forest in Japan that people go to commit suicide. It looks incredibly creepy and since I’ve already seen The Revenant, this will be this is where you will fond me this weekend.

Steve’s Take

Love the concept and love that this actually happens. Count me in!

Next Week

I’m really looking forward to seeing The Forest, it has a look that reminds me of The Grudge. But the big movie to see this week is The Revenant. It is absolutely brilliant and will most likely land Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar win. Next week we have Kevin Hart and Ice Cube back in Ride Along 2, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and the kiddie flick Norm of the North. Have a great weekend and more importantly a fantastic 2016.
