Alien: Covenant

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with ALIEN: COVENANT, a new chapter in his groundbreaking ALIEN franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape.

Scott’s Take

Darker, bloodier and nastier, Alien: Covenant is a nasty movie that pulls no punches. I thought that Scott’s Prometheus was bloated eye candy, so naturally I walked into Alien: Covenant not expecting much. I liked it much better than Prometheus. Is it perfect? Nope. There are a few lulls during it’s over two hour run time, but I have to say this one is the third best film in the franchise behind Aliens, and Alien.  (4 stars out of 5 stars)

Steve’s Take

I missed this screening, but I have heard nothing but good things from those in attendance. I’ll be checking this one out just as soon as I can.

Everything, Everything

A teenage girl (Amandla Stenberg) is unable to leave her home because she has an immunodeficiency that makes her allergic to almost everything. However, her life changes for the better when she begins to communicate with the boy next door (Nick Robinson). Everything, Everything was directed by Stella Meghie, and was adapted from the YA novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon.

Scott’s Take

What a strange idea for a movie. It’s Lifetime for the young adults.

Diary of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul

In DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LONG HAUL, based on the record-breaking book series, a family road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course–thanks to Greg’s newest scheme to (finally!) become famous.

Scott’s Take

This one is for the younglings. They have to have some sort of an audience to keep churning these movies out.

Steve’s Take

Obviously not for me, but I have also heard good things about this one from some of you guys that went to the screening we did last week.

Next Week

That’s all for this week. My pick of the week is definitely Alien: Covenant. Next week we have Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Have a great weekend everyone.
