Ralph Reviews The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 3 (SPOILERS)

In this episode, titled “The Cell”, we meet the Sanctuary, home of The Saviors. Most of the footage revolves around Daryl being tortured and beaten mentally and physically. We also get a real in-depth look at Dwight and his relationship with Negan.

Ultimately for me, this Episode didn’t work because of the style the show chooses to go. In particular, the music choices. They felt very jarring and odd because when I see the Sanctuary, I see a dark, brooding place. Playing light, cheerful Music seemed to defeat that purpose in my opinion. I understand that the Music is there to torture Daryl, but it didn’t work for me.

As Walking Dead episodes go, this isn’t among the worst, but it is below average. The show has a bad habit of having filler episodes that don’t affect the story. This is unfortunately one of those. That being said, if it really strengthens its character, then it saves it. “The Cell’ really does give us a new look at Dwight, but that’s about it. A lot of it was useless.

Dwight was really boosted in the episode, though. I loved seeing a glimpse of why Dwight turned so dark, and why he went back to Negan. Say what you want about Negan, but he really has a strong on screen preference.

“The Cell” has some strong moments, but overall is a bottle episode. It didn’t advance the story enough for my taste.
