Steve’s Top 10 Movies of 2015

Alright people. The top 10 worst movies of the year was fun and all, but now it’s time for the movies I enjoyed the most. I am taking a slightly different approach this year – these are the movies that I had a lot of fun watching. Maybe the fun was had during a screening or maybe the fun was had while I was watching them with my wife and son. There are other top 10 lists that you will see with different movies – try sitting down to watch some of those movies and you will be bored to pieces and wonder just how they got on anyone’s top 10 list to begin with. All of that being said, I have seen a ton of movies in 2015, but not all of them just yet so don’t attack me on Twitter – @stevefaracecst (cheap plug) saying I left your favorite movie off the list. Enough scolding – here we go!

10B. Bridge of Spies

Yes, there is a 10B – which means there will be a 10A – which means I’m cheating. Get over it. Bridge of Spies was brilliant and Tom Hanks was outstanding in his role. As will be the case with many of the movies on this list, if you haven’t seen this one yet, put it on your catch up list for 2016!

10A. Ex-Machina

Two things that you need to know before I get to into detail on this one. I’m not a big sci-fi fan and I left the screening for this one feeling really luke-warm about it. After thinking about it some more and then watching it again, I was able to see just how great it was. As I type this I feel like watching it once again!

9. Mad Max: Fury Road

Listen, if you love action movies then this is the one for you to see from 2015. Tom Hardy and especially Charlize Theron are absolutely outstanding in this 2 hour car chase. This is one that you can watch over and over again and hey, if you ever need an adrenaline rush, pop this bad boy in the bluray player!

8. The Gift

This is not one that I was really looking forward to, but my good friend Gordo helped to turn that around. If you’ve seen The Gift then you know what that means. Jason Bateman is one of my favorite actors so that was a plus going into the screening. If you need a thrill or 7 in your life, look no further. Great acting and a great story.

7. The Peanuts Movie

Here is one that I had a blast watching with my wife and my son. My son loved it so much and it really brought me back to my childhood. Who doesn’t love the Charlie Brown holiday specials?

6. Inside Out

I took my son to this screening and he loved it. The movie shows that you need all of your emotions (including sadness) in order to be happy in life. It is a great lesson for children of all ages. This one is at 98% on Rotten Tomatoes for a reason.

5. Ant-Man

When I first heard that an Ant-Man movie was going to be made, I thought what was Marvel thinking?? I thought it would be one of those movies that would just be there in 2015 and boy was I wrong. I loved this movie and Paul Rudd’s comedy is just pure gold.

4. The Hateful Eight

Tarantino isn’t for everyone, but he is certainly for me. He made me enjoy a western! That says a lot. There is a lot of talk during the first part of the movie and a lot of action during the second part of this 3 hour monster of a flick. It’s not likely one you will watch over and over again, but give it a shot!

3. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Age of Ultron was absolutely fantastic. If you saw this one in theaters (in particular IMAX) and you weren’t having a blast then there is something wrong with you. Another outstanding entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

2. The Martian

The Castaway of space, as I like to call it (and so does Claudio as I found out tonight), The Martian is spectacular. Matt Damon does a great job with this one and it isn’t just him sobbing about being lost on Mars for years and years. He might be the only one – I can’t even begin to imagine how I would react to being trapped on Mars.

1. Jurassic World

Another one that brought me back to my childhood. I loved (and still do love) dinosaurs and I am able to continue to do so through my son. He loves dinosaurs and I have seen this one 20+ times and I am not exaggerating. Spoiler alert – when T-Rex was released to help in the fight against Indominus Rex and the crowd at the screening cheered, I got goosebumps. For all these reasons and more, Jurassic World is my number 1 movie of 2015!

That’s all for my Top 10 of 2015! I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support in 2015 and I look forward to another successful year and even more interaction with each of you in 2016!
