The red capes are coming in new BvS Comic-Con trailer!

by Claudio Zelaya,

Is this page even able to load? Has the internet completely shut down yet?! It’s here everyone! The highly anticipated FULL trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and what a beautiful three minutes it is! DC had a lot riding on today’s panel since Marvel isn’t even showing up to SDCC. Boy, did they come in heavy. Not only were the people in attendance treated to a special teaser from the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie, the cast of BvS also stopped by with a little treat! Thankfully, they didn’t just wave hello, take a selfie and leave…

Let me make my bias clear, I grew up on the animated series of Superman, Batman, Teen Titans and the Justice League, but that’s not to say I won’t hold my favorite heroes to a lower standard than the other movies I watch. That being said, this trailer is phenomenal! We start off with protesters voicing their opinion on the Superman/Zod battle that wiped out a good portion of Metropolis. Holly Hunter is officially confirmed to be playing a senator that seems to be working with Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor. Can the world trust a man of this much power? They want answers to why Superman is on their planet and what’s to stop him from massacring them all.

I also love how this starts off where “Man of Steel” left off. Bruce Wayne witnessed the destruction of the battle and saw one of his buildings, and dozens of his employees, demolished by the strength of the two Kryptonians. We hear Jeremy Irons voice like in the last trailer explaining what turns men like Bruce cruel. Am I the only one picturing Scar saying these lines? There’s also symbolism in Perry White’s speech to Clark. He says, “You don’t get to decide what the right thing is. Nobody cares about Clark Kent taking on the Batman.” Silly Perry, Clark is going to give Batman a run for his billions.

We get more hope symbolism, too, when it’s shown that Superman is saving a family from a flood. His symbol is now being used as an S.O.S. Diane Lane’s Ma Kent has the second best line in the trailer: “You don’t owe this world a thing.” I really enjoyed this because it’s basically what defines Clark as Superman. He doesn’t owe anyone anything, but he is a kind and loving man at heart and will put his life on the line for his home because he’s the only who can…until more movies come out. I’m comfortable saying Jessie Eisenberg may be the best casting in this movie .“The red capes are coming, the red capes are coming!” Superman is shown kneeling before Lex Luthor, which begs me to ask if mind control is the reason he and Batman are fighting. He doesn’t say a single work throughout the whole trailer.

Now, the only things I’m still not too sure of is the line, “and we need to destroy him”, coming from Batman and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. Her scenes look a little weird, but I can still be surprised when the movie finally comes out. To those who were wishing that Christian Bale would reprise his role as Batman, I’m sorry but that Batman would get destroyed by Superman in one punch, but Ben Affleck looks amazing moving around in the bat suit. It looks like he’s fighting the soldiers with the Superman logos on them. Apologies for going on a tangent about this trailer but we’re all excited for this! Tell us what you think! Are you excited for this movie? Did you enjoy the trailer? Can 2016 be tomorrow?!
