The Sportz Nutt Is Gearing Up For The Royal Rumble

With the Road to Wrestlemania opening up soon (if not already), that means that the Royal Rumble is fast approaching. As per the WWE website:

A tradition dating back to 1988, the Royal Rumble Match starts with two participants, with new Superstars entering the ring every 90 seconds. This continues until all 30 Superstars have entered the bout. Eliminations occur when a Superstar is thrown over the top rope and both of his feet hit the floor. The last Superstar standing will be declared the victor. The winner of which moves on to battle for championship glory in the main event of WrestleMania.

I love the way they worded it in that 1) it could be any championship and 2) it no longer main events the event, so it really could be anyone. Here are some of the favorites:

Chris Jericho: The man who has done it all has never won the Rumble match. With a breakup from Owens teased over the months, imagine if he had to face his friend Kevin Owens in a championship match?!?!

Bray Wyatt: Already with championship gold, he is trending upwards and is thriving on a smaller roster. That said, I think he faces Orton at Wrestlemania.

Braun Stroman: I like the way they have built up the big man, but I believe he gets eliminated by The Shield and/or Sami Zayn. However, there’s a chance that Vince McMahon’s birthday gift comes through.

John Cena: Is there a bigger and/or better place for Cena to tie the all-time record for World Heavyweight Championships? It starts with a Rumble win….if he enters.

Triple H: He won last year, screwed over Seth Rollins, and has been called out by Rollins for awhile now. He hasn’t shown his face yet. While I don’t think he will enter the Rumble, I think he could sneak attack and distract Rollins, setting up a match at Wrestlemania.

Finn Balor: Rumored to be fully healthy by Wrestlemania, he could find his way on the card. Imagine the pop he would receive if he enters? Doubtful, but not out of the questions completely.

Goldberg/Brock Lesnar: While both should be heavy favorites to dominate, I think it’s pretty obvious that we’re setting ourselves up for a rubber match/rematch at Wrestlemania.

Bo Dallas: One of the greatest superstars ever, he needs a push, and what better way than……hahaha sorry. That said, I’m a Bo-Liever. Sigh.

Surprise Entrant: Perhaps a Samoa Joe or other NXT entrant (Tye Dillinger) to shock the world? While I think it’s a perfect time to debut, I don’t see a victory.

And while there are other strong choices (Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Sami Zayn, Undertaker), I really don’t see any of them with a fighting chance. If I had to pick right now, I would go with Chris Jericho, but my opinion may change as we get closer to the event.

And there you have it.
