It was recently announced that Craig Sager’s doctor told him that he has 3-6 months to live, as his cancer is no longer in remission. Very very sad news for anyone in the world, much less one of my favorite announcers on TV. I don’t know what it is about him that appeals to me, whether it’s the outlandish wardrobe he wears, or the various fashion opinionated tirades players and coaches go on when they’re interviewed by him, or the fact that he continues to go out there week after week an do his thing, but I’ve always had a fondness for Mr. Sager. For those that don’t know him, he works as an analyst for TNT at their NBA games, and interviews players and coaches on the sidelines. The thing that makes him stand out from the others is his wardrobe, which, to say the least, is outlandish and colorful. I loved his interviews with Greg Popovich. I loved his interviews with Kobe and Garnett. And I loved the way he would confidently do his thing, regardless of what was said. It takes an ordinary man to fit into a crowd of “normalcy”, by succumbing to what society deems as normal. It takes a great man to go against the grain so confidently, worrying about nothing of others’ opinions. Now, whether this was a bit or not, I don’t know (I lean towards the bit side), but the fact that he is able to wear these clothes and do his job and keep such a straight face all the time is remarkable. His reaction to the news was fantastic and perfect, stating that he will break medical science and live for years. We could all learn a thing or two from this man and his intestinal fortitude. Here are my favorite Craig Sager moments (for what is said and what is worn):
All the best Craig!
