Tonight’s Game Preview: San Antonio Spurs Vs Miami Heat

By Ralph Linardic

The Heat (2-1) take on the Spurs (3-0) tonight in a battle of injury ridden teams. San Antonio is without Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker, and potentially Joffrey Lauvergne. Joffrey is unlikely to play as he’s day to day. For Miami, Hassan Whiteside is out for the third straight game due to a knee bruise. Dion Waiters and Goran Dragic are both listed as day to day, but are expected to play.

I think that San Antonio should be more concerned as Kawhi Leonard is better than Hassan Whiteside and is more crucial to San Antonio’s success. Miami has the home advantage here, so look for San Antonio to try and get out in front early. Coach Popovich is known for getting the Spurs out to fast starts, and Miami has gotten out to fast starts in their first two home games.

In order to win, Miami will need to keep San Antonio out of the paint. Lamarcus Aldridge and Pau Gasol are the best 4-5 combo in the league, and without Hassan Whiteside, they will be difficult to guard. If Miami can keep those two under 40 points, that’s the key to winning tonight.

San Antonio’s keys to winning, as well as scoring in the paint, is getting Patty Mills and Danny Green going. They have been productive bench scorers in past years, but have had difficult starts this year. If they can make the three ball, it will frustrate Miami’s defense.
