Hey all – Steve here. Let’s talk some Weekend Box Office Results, eh? We had two new flicks go wide this weekend and the one that hit less theaters had much more success. Here we go!

1. Split

Budget – $5 million

This Weekend – $40.2 million

Total – $40.2 million

SPLIT was projected to open up to $23 million and as you can see it did just slightly better than that. After a bit of research, you will find a few different amounts for the films budget, but my good friend Google shows $5 million. Other sites show “less than $10 million” and $5 million fits right in there. Hitting just north of 3,000 theaters (3,038) to be exact, it more than doubled the 2nd place movie on this weeks list. Oh and if you missed our reviews for this bad boy, check them out here:

2. xXx: The Return of Xander Cage

Budget – $85 million

This Weekend – $20 million

Total – $20 million

And here is the 2nd flick to open up this weekend. You see it has a much larger budget and it made less than half of what SPLIT made. It also came out in 613 less theaters. All of that being said, who went out to see this? Really. Did you really think this was going to be a good movie? Shame on you. That’s all I can say. I’ve never been a big fan of Vin Diesel and this is just another reason why.

3. Hidden Figures

Budget – $25 million

This Weekend – $16.3 million

Total – $16.3 million

Falling a couple of spots from #1 to #3 is HIDDEN FIGURES. This week, it will make it to over $60 million better than its budget. Not too shabby at all.

4. Sing

Budget – $75 million

This Weekend – $9 million

Total – $249.4 million

Rounding out the Top 5 is the musical that made me like a musical.

That’s all for this weekend people. Next weekend we will probably be talking about A Dog’s Purpose (although there has already been a lot of talk about this one), Gold and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Have a great week!
