Hey all – Steve here. Our first complete weekend of 2017 is in the books and we have a 4 time champ and a few new additions to the Top 5 – one of which is brand new to theaters and the others have finally made it to enough theaters to make the Top 5. That being said, let’s get to it!

1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Budget – $200 million

This Weekend – $22 million

Total – $477.3 million

I have not seen it and I have no desire to see it. The money just keeps pouring in so it’s not as if I am hurting them at all by not paying to see it. I might have considered seeing it at the press screening if I was in town for it. Maybe.

2. Hidden Figures

Budget – $25 million

This Weekend – $21.8 million

Total – $24.8 million

I missed the press screening for this one, but I will get around to it. I went to the movies on Saturday afternoon and the line for this one was pretty intense and the showing for the time I was there was sold out. Both good signs.

3. Sing

Budget – $75 million

This Weekend – $19.6 million

Total – $213.4 million

Still haven’t gotten around to seeing this one with my son. Have any of you seen it? Let me know.

4. Underworld: Blood Wars

Budget – $35 million

This Weekend – $13.1 million

Total – $13.1 million

For the life of me, I can’t understand why anyone thought this would be necessary. If you know who was responsible for this one, please let me know immediately so I can have our people deal with them. Thank you. Oh and you guys spent $13.1 million to see this one this weekend? Honestly. What is wrong with you?

5. La La Land

Budget – $30 million

This Weekend – $10 million

Total – $51.7 million

Well maybe it is just a nice coincidence, but the weekend that I finally get to see La La Land is the same weekend that it makes it into the Top 5 at the Box Office. You’re welcome to all you La La maniacs! You all know I am not a musical kind of a guy, but this one was excellent. No complaints from me!

That’s all for this weekend. Next week we have The Bye Bye Man, Monster Trucks and Sleepless. Enjoy your week!
