Hey all – Steve here. It was a pretty safe bet that we were going to have a new champion this weekend. Let’s see how things worked out this weekend.
This Weekend – $73.7 million
Total – $73.7 million
Listen. Deadpool’s run at the top spot wasn’t going to last forever. We all knew Zootopia was going to take over the lead position this week. It is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 99% and kids are going to be BEGGING their parents to go check it out for weeks to come. I like to wait a few weeks for the crowds to die down before taking my son to a big release like this one and I’m sure I’m not the only brilliant parent out there.
This Weekend – $21.7 million
Total – $21.7 million
I saw this one last week and I told you it was borderline ridiculous, but it was entertaining and you guys listened. This is a nice showing for the first week of this bad boy and depending on word of mouth, I could see a run of a few weeks in the top 5 for London Has Fallen. If you missed my review for this one, check it out here!
This Weekend – $16.4 million
Total – $311.2 million
Deadpool FINALLY falls from the top spot and right into the number 3 spot. It’s still making an absurd amount of money and like I have said, Deadpool has become a trendsetter for R rated movies in the genre. Let’s see how it goes.
This Weekend – $7.6 million
Total – $7.6 million
This is one that I thought would be a decent film, but not make too much money. Am I spot on or what? You don’t have to answer that. I’m usually right and this is no exception. So what if it was an easy prediction. Whatever.
This Weekend – $5 million
Total – $22.8 million
This one had no business being at number 2 last week. It is pure nonsense and with the budget that it had, it is a complete and total failure. Reminds me of Jupiter Ascending in that way.
That’s all for this weekend. Not much in the way of competition for Zootopia next week, so I fully expect a repeat champ. Have a great week everyone!
