What Just Happened: Monday Night Raw – 2/25/19

by David Joaqui,

Monday Night Raw was filled with returns up the wazoo, making this year’s Road to WrestleMania that much more eventful. Let’s recap what just happened.

The Big Dog Returns!

Your eyes are not deceiving you, Roman Reigns is back. Reigns opened up Monday Night Raw by announcing that his leukemia is in remission. After months of uncertainty on Reigns status, his return was greeted with cheers and chants of “welcome back” and “this is your yard.”

This is a feel good story for Reigns, and has strengthened his connection with the audience. Now, please WWE, don’t push him down our throats so quickly. Let this organic feel blossom on its own.

Dean Ambrose Challenges Drew McIntyre

Elias was set to give one of his memorial performances, that was until Dean Ambrose interrupted him and challenged Drew McIntyre to a no disqualification match. The segment ended with Ambrose hitting Elias with a Dirty Deeds.

This segment is probably why Ambrose said he wouldn’t renew his contract once it expires. It made no sense to have him interrupt Elias only to challenge McIntyre later. It seems like creative is trying to do what it can to get Ambrose air time to make him happy and possibly change his decision.

Becky Lynch Arrested

In typical ‘Stone Cold Steve Austin’ fashion, Becky Lynch interfered in Ronda Rousey and Natalya’s match against the Riott Squad and was arrested by Atlanta’s police department for violating her suspension. Lynch didn’t exit without leaving a few marks with her crutch.

This had a great Attitude Era feel and is what’s making Lynch the hottest attraction WWE has to offer.

Ronda Rousey Abandons the Raw Women’s Championship

After Lynch’s ambush Ronda Rousey called for Vince McMahon to come to the ring, but was greeted by Stephanie McMahon instead. Rousey demanded that Lynch be reinstated and added to the Raw Women’s Championship match at WrestleMania. Stephanie still refused, even after Rousey stepped in front of her to stop her.

Rousey told Stephanie that it’s time for Vince to make the right decision as she left the Women’s Championship in the middle of the ring. I’m not sure if this counts as her relinquishing the title, but this build up has been amazing, and worthy of a main event at WrestleMania.

Shield Reunion

After Ambrose and McIntyre’s match, Elias, Bobby Lashley, and Baron Corbin came to the ring and attacked Ambrose. This prompted Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns to come to the aid of their former Shield brethren. After business was taken care of, Rollins and Reigns walked away from the ring looking back at Ambrose, as he smirked back at them.

This doesn’t officially count as a reunion for the Shield, but this was probably a tease for what is to come at Fastlane.

Ric Flair’s 70th Birthday Celebration Becomes Animalistic

Triple H and Stephanie McMahon opened up Ric Flair’s birthday celebration by introducing several Hall of Famers, which included Shawn Michaels, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, Kurt Angle, and “The Icon” Sting. They followed that with a video package highlighting some of Flair’s most memorable moments and a custom World Heavyweight Championship.

When the time came for Flair to make his grand entrance “The Animal” Batista showed up on the screen entering Flair’s dressing room. The door shut behind him and only bumps were heard from the inside. Batista then dragged Flair’s lifeless body outside of the dressing room and addressed Triple H.

“Hey Hunter, do I have your attention now?”

Triple H fled to the back but by that time Batista had already disappeared.

The last thing I expected was for Batista to make his return, let alone him returning as a heel. Looks like we know who Triple H’s WrestleMania opponent will be this year. Right in time for ‘Avengers: Endgame’ too.
