Welcome back to the weekly Top 10 list. Each week we come up with a topic, go create our separate lists, and then come together to create a top 10 consensus. This week with Deadpool 2 coming out, we decided to discuss Top 10 Josh Brolin movies. He plays Cable in the upcoming comedy and also was just in Avengers: Infinity War and has Sicario: Day of the Soldado later this summer. Clearly the man has a big year ahead of him so why not countdown his career? So, without further adieu, here is CST’s Top 10 Josh Brolin films.

10. Planet Terror

Starting off the list is an out of the box choice in Planet Terror. It is a story about a bio-weapon that turns people into zombies and the people who try to survive. This is your typical ridiculous action comedy, but it is ridiculously fun. Brolin is directed by Robert Rodriguez here and it is what you’d expect from a Rodriguez film. If your looking for a fun zombie movie, Planet Terror is not a bad option.

9. Milk

At number nine we have a movie that seems to have been forgotten in Milk. Milk was a critically acclaimed movie that won two Oscars so of course it deserves to be on the list. This film is the one that gave Brolin his only Oscar nomination so far which is shocking when you see his body of work. He delivers such a great performance as Dan White and proved that he can hold his own with anyone. This was the beginning of Brolin’s turn toward being a great actor.

8. Men in Black 3

At number eight, we have what might be a controversial choice in Men in Black 3. This film is very divided where people either hate it or don’t mind it. I found it to be rather enjoyable and Brolin pretending to be a younger Tommy Lee Jones is so much fun to watch. His dynamic with Will Smith is fantastic and helps to make this movie above what it actually should be at. It is a huge step up from the second film and a welcome addition to the franchise.

T-6. American Gangster

Coming in at a tie for number six on our list is Ridley Scott’s American Gangster. The story about a detective in 1970’s America who is trying to bring down a heroin kingpin selling drugs in the far east. Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington give great back and forth performances here and contribute to one of Ridley Scott’s best films. Josh Brolin is great here as well as a detective and helps to elevate the film.

T-6. Only the Brave

Also, at a tie for number six is one of our more recent films in Only the Brave. I think this will go down as the most overlooked gem of 2017 because this film is special. It is about the real-life story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots and boy is it a gut punch. If you are not in tears, then I don’t know what to tell you. Brolin plays the captain of the firefighters her and delivers one of his most earnest performances yet. I highly encourage everyone to seek out Only the Brave because you will wish you had seen it sooner.

5. The Goonies

Starting off the top five we have Josh Brolin’s first movie in The Goonies. Brolin was just a kid when The Goonies was released and who knew at the time how much of a classic this would be? The Goonies just made audiences feel like a kid again. It’s about a group of kids trying to find a pirate treasure, what is more youthful then that? It is a timeless classic and a movie kids will always see generation after generation.

4. True Grit

At number four we have the beginning of the critically acclaimed movies in True Grit. It is a remake of the original John Wayne film and went and improved on it. It was not just a retread and felt fresh. The performances here are fantastic across the board from Brolin to Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld. If you are looking for a great modern western, True Grit is the film for you.

3. No Country for Old Men

Coming in at number three is a best picture winner in No Country for Old Men. What is there to say that hasn’t already been said about this film? It has come up in numerous lists from us and rightfully so because it is now a classic. We got to see one of the greatest villains of all time in Anton Chigurh played by Javier Bardem who is in constant pursuit of Josh Brolin. This is a gritty and gripping film about choices and survival. This is a film that will be talked about forever.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

Just missing out on the top spot is the film everybody is currently talking about in Avengers: Infinity War. This movie was just such a joy. It had such high expectations with an impossible task of mixing all these characters and they succeeded. Josh Brolin as Thanos became one of the greatest movie villains of all time and made us feel for him even though he was a mad man. We got to see all our favorite characters come together and led it to having the best opening weekend of all time. The whole world is now heavily anticipating where Avengers 4 will go next year.

1. Sicario

At the top spot on our list we have 2015’s Sicario. This is going to be one of the greatest films to not be nominated for best picture ever. Sicario was such an intense and real look at what happens down by the border and director Denis Villeneuve captured it so well. Josh Brolin, Emily Blunt, and Benecio del Toro are all fantastic and the film will leave you anticipating what is next at every turn. The sequel comes out in July and we cannot wait to see how they carry on this story.

So, there you have it! The Top 10 Josh Brolin movies. He has had a unique filmography so far in his career and is still building with many great looking movies coming up. Would Deadpool 2 have made the list? What does your list look like? Go ahead and let us know and we will see you next week when the Top 10 returns.
