CST Top 10: Top 10 MCU Characters

Share Button

Top 10 is back again to bring you reading pleasure once again. What we do is come up with a topic, come up with our own lists, and combine them to make a consensus Top 10. This week with Avengers: Endgame right around the corner, we are counting down the Top 10 MCU Characters. There are many characters we have grown to know and love through eleven years now, so this was a tough decision and here are our choices.

10. Rocket Raccoon

Up top first, we have a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in Rocket Raccoon. Rocket is the core of this team and one who never seems to not entertain. To present us with a talking raccoon and make us fall in love with him is astounding and it’s a shame his counterpart Groot (which makes Nardo very angry) will not be making the list. Rocket has a hard shell but deep down he cares tremendously for his family and friends and will do whatever it takes to keep them safe. A truly unique character.

9. Thanos

Next, we have our first villain to make the list in the Mad Titan Thanos. Marvel had been setting this character up ever since the first Avengers and he did not disappoint. Thanos was everything he was hyped up to be and was so powerful that he accomplished his mission with little to no obstacles at all. He also had empathy in which we understood what he was doing and the sacrifices he had to make in order to succeed. He cared about the universe, just went at it in a terrible way.

8. Black Panther

The franchises biggest star of the future comes in at number eight with Black Panther. Debuting in Civil War, everyone wondered who this guy was and it turns out that he is a badass king of a country we all wish was real. He brings a gravitas to the MCU and a sense of authority that is unmatched. Without him being as great as he is, there would be no Wakanda and now that he is as big of a role model as he has become; there is no stopping this character.

7. Star Lord

Our second member of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise to make the list is the leader of it in Peter Quill AKA Star Lord. Quill is personally the character I connect with the most and find to be the most human of them all. He loses his mother at a young age and then has to kill his father, something we all wish upon no one. Among those loses he then gets his girlfriend Gamora taken away from him due to Thanos and people get on him for losing his cool. I felt for him when he lost Gamora and know his intentions were not to let Thanos win.

6. Doctor Strange

Coming in as a bit of a surprise at number six is Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange is a very interesting study of a character to see just how big of a leap in popularity he made from one film to the next. After his debut in Doctor Strange, we were all excited about him, but not over the moon about his possibilities. Then in Avenger: Infinity War, he was one of the standouts in the wide cast. He was awesome fighting Thanos and his powers I feel we have only scratched the surface of so when Doctor Strange 2 comes out, I will be there first to see it.

5. Loki

The final villain to make the list comes in at number five in Loki. Loki is another fascinating study of how his character has evolved from film to film. In the beginning, he was pure evil in both the first Thor film and Avengers. Then in Thor: The Dark World you started to see the slight shift in him and by Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, he was beloved by everyone. Loki has always been a trickster and one who we couldn’t help but enjoy even when he is hurting a character higher up on this list. He was Marvel’s first great villain and deserves a spot on the list.

4. Spider-Man

Now this is one I have a slight problem with because at number four we have Spider-Man. Tom Holland is great as the character and we finally have it right. However, I just find other characters who missed the list to be more intriguing than him. It is simply because he has been done so many times both before Civil War and as recently as Spider-Verse, so I just wonder what makes him stand out from the rest. However, Tom Holland is the best actor to interpret the character that we have seen. His child-like wonder and innocence really pop off the screen. The costume looks great and moves freely with his body due to the motion capture suit. He was at the top of a couple of lists so he must be doing something right.

3. Captain America

Now we get to the big three of the MCU and it starts with Captain America. This character could’ve easily been a dud who was just looked at as a boy scout with no flaws, but Marvel did not allow that to happen. Instead, they turned the character into a role model who stood for what was right but did make choices that affected others. The conflict he goes through in Civil War is great where he must choose between two friends. We see him a criminal yet can’t help but root for him. He gives the best speeches ever and we are all on the edge of our seats as to his fate in Endgame.

2. Iron Man

Just missing out on the top spot is the man who started it all in Iron Man. Had Iron Man not worked, there would be no other characters for us to love in this franchise. This is a testament to Robert Downey Jr. as the character and what he did with the role. He made it personal and a reflection of himself who has had many flaws but overcome them to be a man we all love. He built this universe and if something happens to him the hole that will be left with be a tremendous gap to fill.

Finally, our number one character in the MCU is the last member of the big three in Thor. Thor has had quite the journey to get to number one. Had he stayed the same as he was through Thor: The Dark World, I’m not sure he makes the list but Taika Waititi and Hemsworth took the character in a new direction that allowed him to fully embrace his potential. He is funny yet relatable as a god of thunder. When he loses everything in Infinity War, we feel for him and root for his revenge, even if his aim was just a little off. Now he is our favorite character and I cannot wait to see how his journey ends.

There you have it. Our choices for the Top 10 MCU characters are here and I’d say we did a pretty good job. Who knows what this list may look like another ten years from now, but what Marvel has done with these characters and the pitch perfect casting has been astounding. What does your list look like? Let us know in the comments and we will see you on the other side of Avengers: Endgame.
