CST Top 10: Top 10 MCU Films

Share Button

Welcome back to the weekly Top 10 list. Each week we come up with a topic, go create our separate lists, and then come together to create a top 10 consensus. This week with Avengers Infinity War coming out we knew that there was no better time to do Top 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. We had ten years of films with 18 movies to choose from. Every film has been building to Avengers Infinity War and most of them have been good to great. This was an incredibly difficult list to make so without further adieu, here we go!

10. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Starting off this list we have Avengers: Age of Ultron. This is the sequel to the original Avengers and one that had a lot of anticipation. Here we see all the heroes get back together to take on Ultron, a system built by Tony Stark. This film has a lot of fun moments such as the Hulk vs Iron Man fight and Hawkeye’s speech. We also get the introductions of Scarlett Witch and Vision. It is a fun film, but not as good as the original.

9. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2

Up next, we have Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2. Another sequel here where we get to see our favorite space team get back together. The first Guardians was so beloved by many, so everyone was excited for this film. It certainly delivered. We see a contained and emotional story that can be viewed on its own where Peter Quill finally gets to meet his father. The team finds out what it’s like to actually be a family and the ending is the one of the most emotional moments in any Marvel film. I cannot wait to see them join up with The Avengers.

8. Thor: Ragnarok

At number eight we have Thor: Ragnarok. Coming off the first two Thor films, people were not that excited for a third film. The first two films were not the best and people were down on the character. Then Ragnarok came around and changed everything. This is the funniest Marvel film to date and maybe its most ambitious. It took a character in Thor in a completely different direction and made it work. Every time I hear The Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin, I think of Thor. We were introduced to great characters in Valkyrie, Hela, and Korg and fell in love with them all. I know am incredibly excited to see what this new Thor does when he meets the Avengers again.

7. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Coming in at number seven we have Spiderman Homecoming. When Sony and Marvel made the deal to send Peter Parker to the Marvel universe, fans were immediately excited. What we got was the best Spiderman film yet! Tom Holland embodies the character so well and delivered such a strong film. We get to see him actually be a high schooler in this one. We also get one of the greatest Marvel villains yet in Vulture played by Michael Keaton who is so relatable yet sinister at the same time. Homecoming was a homerun and there is a good reason why the sequel is the first film of phase 4.

6. Captain America: Civil War

Just missing out of the top five is Captain America: Civil War. There had quietly been a lot of setup for this film from the other movies. We see our heroes get divided by the Sokovia Accords and have to fight each other. It is emotional and gripping to see the story unfold and the final twist is such a gut punch. You understand both sides of the divide and are lost wondering what you would do in that situation. Where the film ends is where Infinity War will pick up and where are heroes are now is very intriguing to see what they do.

5. Iron Man

Starting off the top five we have the film that started it all in Iron Man. There would be no list right now had Iron Man not succeeded. It was such a risk to start a whole franchise with a character that was not very popular with an actor who was recovering from a rough past. What we ended up getting was a genre defying performance by Robert Downey Jr who completely embodied the character. He is Tony Stark and has helped carry this franchise to where it is 19 movies later. He has left a legacy on the genre and will forever be remembered for this film that started it all.

4. Black Panther

Coming in at number four is the most recent Marvel film so far in Black Panther. What is there left to say about this one? It is still destroying box office records and on top of it all, it’s a great movie. We got to explore the world of Wakanda and were introduced to such rich new characters. Black Panther has inspired a whole culture and now everyone knows what Wakanda is. We have yet another great villain in Killmonger who also has a great point of view, but a bad way of going about it. Black Panther may be the most popular superhero currently and he is just getting started.

3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

At number three we have Captain America: The Winter Soldier. This film is constantly in the discussion as one of the best superhero films ever. It is the prototypical spy thriller movie with amazing action sequences. Captain America discovers his best friend is still alive and is now his enemy. The pace of this film is so perfect, and all the sequences are well executed. Captain America became a fan favorite here and hasn’t looked back since.

2. The Avengers

just missing out on the top spot is maybe one of the most iconic films ever in The Avengers. This was the film that really established the Marvel universe as a force in the industry. It was the first time we got to see our heroes all together on screen and the ending battle in New York is executed so well. We all know that iconic shot of the team standing in a circle ready for battle with that theme by Alan Silvestri in the background. The team has grown so much since and it was all established here in The Avengers.

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

At the number one spot we have Guardians of the Galaxy and boy am I happy about that. This to me is just the perfect superhero film. It blends humor, action, and drama so well with some of the best characters. The entire team is incredibly relate-able as we can all consider ourselves to be a loser at some point. We fall in love with a talking racoon and talking tree and cry when one of them risks it all. It is the most re-watchable Marvel film and one that never dies in quality with each viewing. Let’s also not forget that incredible soundtrack that becomes a character itself in the film. Anyone can turn this film on and love it which makes it the best MCU film!

So, there you have it! The Top 10 MCU films! This was such a fun list to make and no one has an identical looking list. None of the Marvel films are awful and it is truly incredible what this studio has been able to accomplish. What do you think of our list? What does yours look like? I’m sure it will be a fun debate. We will see you next week when the Top 10 returns.
