CST Top 10: Top 10 Summer Box Office Predictions

Share Button

Welcome back to the weekly Top 10 list. Each week we come up with a topic, go create our separate lists, and then come together to create a top 10 consensus. This week with nothing really big coming out again due to Avengers: Infinity War, we decided to do something different. We are going to do our best and predict the Top 10 highest grossing movies at the box office. At the end of the summer, we will come back and see how everyone did. There are so many different movies coming out this summer and its anyone’s guess what the top earners will be. This should be fun so here we go!

10. Skyscraper

Starting off the list is an action movie called Skyscraper. The only reason this film makes the list is because of its star Dwayne Johnson. The guy is today’s biggest movie star and can mostly carry a movie on his name alone. This movie looks like Johnson’s version of Die Hard and if it hits well with audiences, it could be a big earner.

9. The Meg

At number nine we have a little film called The Meg. This movie looks insanely bonkers. This is a film about a giant prehistoric shark that is rediscovered and is now ready to eat everyone. Another shark movie you may have heard of called Jaws is considered the first blockbuster ever, so it wouldn’t be surprising for another shark movie to have success. I just want to see Jason Statham punch the shark in the face.

8. Ocean’s 8

Coming in at number eight is ironically Ocean’s 8. This is the spinoff from the Soderbergh Ocean’s trilogy and is starring an all-female cast. The past two summers have had female driven movies in the top 10 including Wonder Woman and Ghostbusters. The trailers for this look great and Sandra Bullock is a huge box office draw, so it is no surprise this made the list. With positive reviews, I could see Ocean’s 8 being in the top five of the summer box office.

T-6. Mission Impossible: Fallout

Landing at number six/seven at a tie we have Mission Impossible: Fallout. This is now the sixth installment in the Mission Impossible franchise and this is a franchise that is trending upward. The past two movies have been the best in the franchise and both have been box office successes. Tom Cruise is still a huge movie star and the trailer blew everyone away. This is the definition of a summer blockbuster.

T-6. Antman and the Wasp

Also tied at the six spot we have the first of many superhero flicks in Antman and the Wasp. This is the next Marvel Studios film and boy did it just get a huge boost from Avengers: Infinity War. Antman is a character many people overlook, and they really shouldn’t. Now we are adding Evangeline Lilly as the Wasp and the duo looks great from the trailers. If there is even a hint of Avengers content in this film, expect a huge box office boost for Paul Rudd and his ants.

5. Deadpool 2

Starting off the top five we have Deadpool 2. Of course, this movie is in the top five. The first movie is the second highest grossing rated R movie of all time. Ryan Reynolds is back here as Wade Wilson and all the trailers have given us hope that this next film will be as good as the first. Its presales are the highest ever for a rated R film so expect this to make big dollars this summer.

4. Solo: A Star Wars Story

Flying in at number four is one that is a surprise in Solo: A Star Wars story. It is strange to not see a Star Wars film at the top of a list but that is the current world we live in after The Last Jedi was so divisive. Not to mention most people did not want a young Han Solo movie in the first place. At the end of the day, the film is still a Star Wars film and if it gets solid reviews, fans will give it all their money. The trailers have been encouraging thus far so I have hope that this little movie can succeed.

3. Incredibles 2

At number three we have Pixar throwing their hat into the ring with Incredibles 2. Now I know most people think this movie will be great, but I have my hesitations. Pixar sequels/prequels have not been as good as the originals if they are not named Toy Story. Cars 2, Cars 3, Monsters University, and Finding Dory were all disappointments to me and it makes me hesitant about Incredibles 2. However, people will still flock out to see this movie they have waited 14 years for and it is coming in the middle of this super hero culture we now live in. This movie can easily be the top earner when all is said and done.

2. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Just missing out at the top spot is Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. Now I have noticed something with this film. Most people in the film punditry atmosphere seem to think this movie will fail because the original was nothing special. What they fail to recognize is kids love dinosaurs. I was working a summer camp when the first Jurassic World came out and they all said this was their favorite movie and they saw it 2, 3, even 4 times. The first one was one of the greatest box offices successes ever, expect this to be the same.

1. Avengers: Infinity War

Finally, at the number one spot we have Avengers: Infinity War. Was this a surprise to anyone?  It has already become the fastest movie to ever cross a billion dollars and still has not opened in China yet. Two billion is certainly not out of the question and should easily make it the number one movie this summer and this year. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for? Don’t be one of those “superhero movies are stupid” people. Just give it a shot and be apart of the conversation. You will not be disappointed.

So, there you have it! Out predictions for the Top 10 Summer Box Office of 2018. What does your list look like? Jump into the comments and let us know.
