The Pokémon Company held a press conference in Tokyo, Japan earlier in the week, which would be their platform to announce three new Pokémon titles for 2018/19. The news of this conference was leaked earlier that day, and when the time came for it, people were ready to pop with anticipation.
The first game announced was Pokémon Quest, which would be available for Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. In this free to play game, you befriend Pokémon, and uncover treasure in this unknown land. The game takes a boxy, cube like approach to its design, not dissimilar to other mobile games. There are special cards that grant health and power to Pokémon when equipped, adding a layer of strategy to the mix. The game is available now on Nintendo Switch, and later on for mobile.
The next game is actually two games! This should come to no surprise to anyone familiar with how Pokémon release games. Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon Let’s Go Eevee! are new spinoffs of the Pokémon franchise headed to Nintendo Switch. In this re-imagining of the original Pokémon Yellow from 1998, you and a friend can travel across Kanto in a new way. Fusing both traditional Pokémon elements with Pokémon Go elements, gives these two Let’s Go games a new way of bringing Pokémon to players.
Lastly, we were given an update on the previously announced core Pokémon RPG game teased way back when. This will be released in the second half of 2019, and while Let’s Go is more casual friendly, this new game will be for the hardcore fans expecting the new gen game. Not much else in known about the next core title, but Let’s Go should hold fans over while we wait.
We don’t have to wait long for the Pokémon Let’s Go games, both of which release simultaneously on Nov. 16th, for $59.99, and we even have two games already in the form of Pokémon Quest and Pokken Tournament. It’s safe to safe Pokémon has already made its home on Switch with more exciting things to come.
