Hump Day Thoughts on Sports – 7/11/12

Well, we took a week off last week for the July 4th holiday. It took place on a Wednesday – how’d that work out for ya? We have a lot to get to…

NBA Free Agency has begun and there has been a decent amount of movement. Of course, Dwight Howard is still a pain in the ass and he remains on the Orlando Magic. The Brooklyn Nets finally had enough today and said they had to take care of business with Brook Lopez before someone else signed him to an offer sheet. I’m glad. I’m tired of this Dwight Howard saga and obviously this situation has surged far beyond anything that Lebron James ever did. Take the hate that you have towards Lebron and shift it on over to Dwight for making this NBA Free Agency period a living hell for all of us!

The Toronto Raptors look to be the losers of the off-season already. The signed Landry Fields to a 3yr $20 million offer sheet in hopes that it would take away a trade chip for the New York Knicks to use to get Steve Nash, who the Raptors had already offers a 3yr $36 million contract. Well, they did stop the Knicks from getting Nash, but that did not stop the Lakers from grabbing him! Now they Raptors have Fields for $20 million for the next 3yrs. Good luck with that guys.

The Heat continue to grab whoever they want. If this was baseball and there was no salary cap, imagine who the Heat would have now. They just signed Rashard Lewis and of course, they stole Ray Allen from the Boston Celtics. With all of the talk about how Allen was traded to the Grizzlies and it falling through, plus the souring relationship with Rondo, I’m surprised it took Ray Allen so long to decide to leave the Celtics. Miami has effectively said “screw you Boston”…again.

Last night was the MLB All-Star game. The National League won for the 3rd time in a row and they’ve also won 4 of the last 5 World Series. I thought the AL was so much more dominating than the NL. Guess not.

In what seems to be a new portion of this weekly article, our jackass of the week is Reggie Jackson. Jackson was calling out players that are in the Hall of Fame for being undeserving of the achievement. One of those guys was Gary Carter. Not only is The Kid deserving of being in the Hall, but the man just passed away. Are you kidding me?? Jackass.

That’s about all for this week! Hope your hump day is going well and that you’re on your way to an enjoyable weekend! If I missed something or if you’d like to battle it out on something you didn’t agree with feel free to leave a comment!

Talk to you guys next hump day!
