2018 San Diego Comic-Con is in the books and it was certainly a fascinating source for movie news as it always is. Many of the studios presented first looks at their big films and TV show and here are our takes on some of the highlights.

Annabelle 3

Annabelle 3 was announced at Scare Diego which takes place on Wednesday. Annabelle 3 did not come as a shock to most. The first Annabelle was awful while Annabelle Creation was a surprising sequel. Both films were financially successful, so it made sense for a third. This one will feature The Warrens from the Conjuring Universe and how they came to have Annabelle in their possession. Hopefully this film can be even better than Annabelle: Creation.

It Chapter 2 Footage

Also, at Scare Diego was a behind the scenes glimpse of the highly anticipated It chapter 2. The footage is not online but reports talk about showing the kid versions face to face with their adult counterparts. Finally, we see the adults at the famous Chinese restaurant from the book in which Bill Hader utters one line. Not much left to say here since they just started filming. Can’t wait to hear about more!

New Titans Trailer

To start off the convention, DC started with the first bit of news by dropping the first trailer for their new Titans series. This trailer hit with a thud and did not do it for me. We see right away that this series will be very mature and not anything like Teen Titans. Robin kills a couple of people and drops the most famous quote of the convention “F… Batman”. This series does not look good to me and did not get me excited for the streaming service.

DC Streaming Service prices announced

DC is jumping into the streaming game with many new shows to come including Titans, Hawk and Dove, Doom Patrol, and more. The cost was also announced where you can pay a yearly fee of $74.99 or a monthly subscription of $7.99. In addition to the shows you will also get all the classic animated films from DC Comics and their animated series. Titans did not sell me, so I’ll wait to see if I subscribe to this but for now it is a no.

New The Predator Footage

The Predator footage was exclusive to Hall H only, but people seemed to be very lukewarm on what they saw. We basically know the plot details. A new super Predator has been discovered and he is on the hunt. Hopefully this cast and Shane Black can create a solid film but things are not looking hopeful right now.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is coming back

This news might’ve been the biggest surprise of the entire convention. The Clone Wars held a ten-year anniversary panel where they surprised everyone with a new trailer. This trailer revealed that the Clone Wars television series is coming back with all new episodes and the entire team returning. This is huge for Star Wars as the fan base is so terrible right now and they are actually excited again.

Iron Fist Season 2 announced with release date

Iron Fist season 2 was announced a while ago but at this big event we finally got out first trailer as well as a release date. After the success of Luke Cage season 2 and how they made Iron Fist cool again, people were a little more excited after a lukewarm response to season 1. Iron Fist Season 2 will drop on Netflix September 7th which is the same day Sony’s Spider-Man game is released.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

The new animated Spider-Man film starring the character Miles Morales had a panel during the Sony presentation. News was dropped including how Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Gwen will be a central character in the film. We also got confirmation of Nicholas Cage voicing Spider-Man Noir and John Mulaney voicing Spider-Ham who is a pig. This movie is shaping up to be the surprise of 2018.

Speaking of Spider-Man characters, the upcoming Venom film also had some news and footage. We learned Venom will be facing Riot who is also a symbiote in addition to other symbiotes yet to be announced. Footage was shown with Venom in action having his arms turn to weapons. This film comes out in October so we are not far.

Getting back to Hailee Steinfeld, the upcoming Bumblebee film also had a panel. We learned that Optimus Prime will make a cameo but this will be a personal story with Bumblebee and Charley (Steinfeld). It will have Iron Giant and E.T. feels apparently while also having great action. This looks like a promising film.

Godzilla: King of the Monsters Trailer

The trailer I was most looking forward to coming into Comic Con was the Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer and it did not disappoint. The trailer showed us the talented cast and how they are discovering all the monsters that have always been on Earth. We saw Mothra, King Rhodan, and Godzilla in some of the most impressive visuals I’ve ever seen. This looks like such a great spectacle.

Aquaman trailer released

The first trailer for James Wan’s Aquaman was released, and fans of the DC Extended Universe breathed a sigh of relief. While the effects looked incomplete, the style of this underwater superhero picture is keeping this writer optimistic.

First Shazam trailer released

In a surprising move, Warner Brother’s released a teaser trailer for the upcoming superhero film Shazam. Releasing April 5th, 2019, the film stars Zachary Levi as the title character. It looks to have a lot of spunk and character, which the DCEU is solely lacking.

Andrew Lincoln officially announces he’s leaving The Walking Dead

A piece of news that’s been speculated on for awhile, Andrew Lincoln, aka Rick Grimes, has officially announced that Season 9 of The Walking Dead will be his last. For fans of the show, this is a devastating piece of news. While we know Lincoln will not appear on the show anymore, we didn’t get any details of Rick’s future in the Walking Dead universe.

The Flash Season 5 confirms its new villain

CW’s The Flash showed off its first footage for the new season, and Chris Klein from the American Pie series has been confirmed to play the lead villain., Cicada. While his motivations are unknown, we know that he has a grudge with Barry Allen aka The Flash, and his daughter from the future, Nora.

First trailer for M Night Shyamalan’s Glass has been released

After the groundbreaking film Unbreakable, and the surprising hit Split, the two film franchises are coming together for this sequel/team up film Glass. Starring Samuel L Jackson, Bruce Willis, and James McAvoy, the film combines the worlds of these movies and looks to do so in an entertaining way.

The Walking Dead: The Final Season shows off the first 15 minutes of Season 4

Fans of Telltales Walking Dead saga were pleased to be introduced to minimal footage from the first episode of this season. While the footage doesn’t show any story points, it does address the 4-year time gap after the end of Season 3. Also, we hear a much more mature and world-weary AJ.

Comic-Con 2018 is officially in the books and it certainly seemed like a successful one. Marvel not being there did not hurt the convention at all and we now have many trailers to talk about. News dropping at the convention is something I look forward to every year and I can’t wait to do it all over again.
