I’ve got thoughts, and I have a ton of them. Some fall in line with the majority opinion, and others are completely my own. That’s where this comes in. Time for a segment I like to call Kyle’s Hot Take of the Week. This week we are back to sports with a take you had to expect was coming sooner or later.
Hot Take – Dak Prescott is a Top 10 Quarterback in the NFL
You had to have seen this coming right? Being the big Cowboys fan that I am, I had to do a Cowboys take at some point and the moment has finally arrived. Dak Prescott is the starting QB for the biggest sports franchise in America and has fully asserted himself into the role by proving time and time again how good he is. Yet people still say he’s bad and can’t throw. Do better people.
Dak was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL draft and immediately lit the league on fire. He replaced an injured Tony Romo in the preseason and never looked back from there starting every game for the Cowboys since. In his first year him and Ezekiel Elliott led the team to a 13-3 record with a first roundbye in the playoffs. They lost in the second round to Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, but still a successful season considering not much was expected of them. Dak won rookie of the year that year over guys drafted much higher than him like Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. The next year was up and down considering the Ezekial Elliott looming suspension, but they still managed to rattle off nine wins. Year three he led the team back to the playoffs with a 10-6 record and another division win and his first playoff win only to lose to the Rams in the second round.
Now we enter year four and the questions still surround Dak. “He can’t throw” is still thrown around. Well this year Dak has led the Cowboys to the current No. 1 ranked offense with them 3rd in passing and 4th in rushing. Who has thrown all those passes for the Cowboys? Dakota Prescott. Dak is also the current leader in QBR this year, a stat Patrick Mahomes led in last year. He is finding his receivers deep and making his team better. Their losses are never because he made a mistake and in year 4, he has improved every season which is what you want from a young QB.
Now I said he is Top 10 so let’s see who is ahead of him. Clearly Tom Brady, Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Deshaun Watson, Patrick Mahomes, and Russell Wilson are all ahead of him, not in that order though. After that I’d put Dak right in at number eight. Who else would you even have an argument for? Matt Ryan has clearly declined and can’t win, same goes for Phillip Rivers. Cam Newton looks like a bum out on the field. Kirk Cousins can’t beat good teams. Jared Goff looks like a scared puppy. Don’t get me started on Carson Wentz. Ok I’ll get started on Carson Wentz. The guy is not better than Dak. People like to hold onto that one good season he had in 2017 before he got hurt but what has he done since then? A bad season last year and a bad start this year. The team got better when he went down both times with Nick Foles as the QB and even won a Super Bowl without him. Dak is 4-1 against him as well and has more playoff victories. Whatever Carson is getting paid, Dak deserves more.
So lets stop with the Dak criticism already can we? Watching him play you can clearly see how much he has improved over each season and the leadership he brings to the team. He has the accolades and the stats to backup his profile. I believe most of the criticism of him just comes from people who hate the Cowboys and look for anything just to degrade the team, which is most of the football fandom. But guess what? We are the largest fanbase in the NFL and not going anywhere. Focus on your own teams, especially you Dolphins’ fans and that mess of an organization. I expect it from Giants and Eagles fans, but if you support Miami go back to your winless hole. Anyways, Dak is awesome and will be a hall of famer when all is said and done.
