Texas Rangers Preview
Published March 8, 2011
The Texas Rangers feel like last years World Series appearance wasn’t a fluke. With an explosive line up with stars like reigning AL MVP Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, young stud short stop Elvis Andrus, Michael Young, and the newly acquired Adrian Beltre, the Rangers can score runs with anyone. The problem with this 2011 version of the Al champs is that with the loss of team ace Cliff Lee to the Philadelphia Phillies, they might be playing a lot of catch up. The starting staff will be anchored with former closer Cj WIlson, who had a surprisingly efficient 2010 campaign. After Wilson, the Rangers will look to Colby Lewis,Brandon Webb,Tommy Hunter, and Derek Holland to fill out the rotation. Texas will take a long look at phenom closer Neftali Feliz to for a possible starting spot, but look for him to remain the closer,at least this season. The great news for the Rangers is that they play in a pretty weak division. The Angels,A’s and Mariners shouldn’t give them any trouble. If Hamilton and Kinsler can stay relatively healthy, expect Texas to steamroll the AL West only to hit a brick wall in the playoffs when they bump up against teams with much more established pitching.
