The Sportz Nutt Breaks Down The CST Fantasy Football League

Share Button
With a new football season upon us comes the annual Cinesportstalk Fantasy Football League, and this year, I’m doomed. I’m cursed…..why? Because I like my team. I like the depth, I like the personnel, and I like my chances. I’m probably finishing with 3 wins…..but we will get to my team later. Let’s analyze the league shall we?
It’s a 10 team standard league (I wish it was PPR…..just throwing it out there) with 1QB, 2RB, 2WR, 1TE and a Flex, along with a kicker and DST. There are bonuses for plateaus reached, such as 100 yards rushing in a game and more. We have already had a few trades, and I’m not here to say who won or lost those….that would be unfair. What I am here to do, however, is look at the Week 1 rosters and give my opinions on how they did. Anyways, here we go:

QB Deshaun Watson, Hou QB Draft
RB Christian McCaffrey, Car RB Draft
RB Royce Freeman, Den RB Draft
RB/WR Leonard Fournette, Jax RB Trade
WR Mike Evans, TB WR Draft
WR DeAndre Hopkins, Hou WR Trade
TE Evan Engram, NYG TE Draft
D/ST Patriots D/ST D/ST Draft
K Jake Elliott, Phi K Draft
Bench Peyton Barber, TB RB Draft
Bench Matt Breida, SF RB Draft
Bench Kelvin Benjamin, Buf WR Draft
Bench Mike Williams, LAC WR Draft
Bench Dez Bryant, FA WR Draft
Bench Tyreek Hill, KC WR Trade
Bench Sammy Watkins, KC WR Free Agency

Grade: 9/10

This is pending on Watson holding up and being what he was last year. RB looks utterly solid throughout and the WR are scorers. I think McCaffrey is going to be great, but he’s going to disappoint some thinking he will return 2nd round value. Freeman is a starter and has electric stuff, but, he is a rookie, so who knows.

QB Andrew Luck, Ind QB Draft
RB Saquon Barkley, NYG RB Draft
RB Kareem Hunt, KC RB Draft
RB/WR Brandin Cooks, LAR WR Draft
WR Josh Gordon, Cle WR Draft
WR Adam Thielen, Min WR Trade
TE Zach Ertz, Phi TE Trade
D/ST Broncos D/ST D/ST Draft
K Adam Vinatieri, Ind K Draft
Bench Corey Davis, Ten WR Draft
Bench Carson Wentz*, Phi QB  O Draft
Bench Chris Carson, Sea RB Draft
Bench Will Fuller V, Hou WR  Q Draft
Bench Isaiah Crowell, NYJ RB Draft
Bench Paul Richardson, Wsh WR Draft
Bench Marlon Mack, Ind RB  Q Draft

Grade: 6/10

A lot of risk here…..2 QB who will return from major injuries this year, a rookie RB, Gordon all present questions. Winning at fantasy football is part luck, and to be lucky you need to stay healthy. If these guys can produce at the level expected, this team will be better than my grade.

QB Russell Wilson, Sea QB Draft
RB Devonta Freeman, Atl RB  Q Draft
RB Derrick Henry, Ten RB Draft
RB/WR Nelson Agholor, Phi WR Draft
WR A.J. Green, Cin WR Draft
WR Demaryius Thomas, Den WR Draft
TE Jordan Reed, Wsh TE Draft
D/ST Eagles D/ST D/ST Draft
K Wil Lutz, NO K Draft
Bench Le’Veon Bell, Pit RB  Q Draft
Bench Tevin Coleman, Atl RB Draft
Bench Julian Edelman, NE WR  SSPD Draft
Bench Jimmy Garoppolo, SF QB Draft
Bench Rashaad Penny, Sea RB Draft
Bench Michael Gallup, Dal WR Draft
Bench Giovani Bernard, Cin RB Free Agency

Grade: 5/10

This grade comes with a lot of sypmathy, because we do not know when Le’Veon Bell will return. I’ve heard Week 10 is a possibility. If that’s the case, then this team will need to work the waiver wire to fill in for holes. I like the handcuffing with Tevin Coleman, and think the starting WR are dependable. If Bell were to be back for Week 2, and be his normal self by Week 3, this team would be closer to a 7.

QB Matthew Stafford, Det QB Free Agency
RB Alvin Kamara, NO RB Draft
RB Joe Mixon, Cin RB Draft
RB/WR Doug Baldwin, Sea WR Draft
WR Julio Jones, Atl WR Draft
WR T.Y. Hilton, Ind WR Draft
TE Delanie Walker, Ten TE Draft
D/ST Lions D/ST D/ST Free Agency
K Chris Boswell, Pit K Draft
Bench Golden Tate, Det WR Draft
Bench Michael Crabtree, Bal WR Draft
Bench Chris Thompson, Wsh RB Draft
Bench Robby Anderson, NYJ WR Draft
Bench Jamison Crowder, Wsh WR Draft
Bench Patrick Mahomes, KC QB Draft
Bench Jack Doyle, Ind TE Draft

Grade: 7/10

I’m a little down on Kamar this season, only because he did so much last season on so few carries, it leads me to believe that some of it was luck and you can’t depend on that again. See, I’m so down on him, I had to write a run on sentence. Anyhoo, Jones will be a major bounce back player this year, even if he doesn’t score a lot again, but this team could use some help at RB.

QB Cam Newton, Car QB Draft
RB Ezekiel Elliott, Dal RB Draft
RB Lamar Miller, Hou RB Draft
RB/WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, Pit WR Draft
WR Davante Adams, GB WR Draft
WR Amari Cooper, Oak WR Draft
TE Rob Gronkowski, NE TE Draft
D/ST Vikings D/ST D/ST Draft
K Brett Maher, Dal K Draft
Bench Duke Johnson Jr., Cle RB Draft
Bench Jordy Nelson, Oak WR Draft
Bench Ben Roethlisberger, Pit QB Draft
Bench Allen Hurns, Dal WR Draft
Bench DeVante Parker, Mia WR  D Draft
Bench Mohamed Sanu, Atl WR Draft
Bench Benjamin Watson, NO TE Draft

Grade: 8/10

I love Cam, I love ‘Zeke, I love Adams, I love Gronk and I like Cooper. That said, I’m down on Juju and Miller this year, though the latter is a decent RB2. The bench leaves a lot to be desired, but in a shallow league, it’s not the biggest of issues.

QB Kirk Cousins, Min QB Draft
RB David Johnson, Ari RB Draft
RB Melvin Gordon, LAC RB Draft
RB/WR Jordan Howard, Chi RB Draft
WR Stefon Diggs, Min WR Draft
WR Marvin Jones Jr., Det WR Draft
TE Trey Burton, Chi TE Draft
D/ST Jaguars D/ST D/ST Draft
K Matt Prater, Det K Draft
Bench Chris Hogan, NE WR Draft
Bench Alshon Jeffery*, Phi WR  O Draft
Bench Kerryon Johnson, Det RB Draft
Bench Aaron Jones, GB RB  SSPD Draft
Bench Keelan Cole, Jax WR Draft
Bench Antonio Gates, LAC TE Draft
Bench Jared Goff, LAR QB Draft

Grade: 8.5/10

Soooo, David Johnson fell to me at 8……I was quite happy. I have 3 top 15 RB on my team, which will help if and when an injury arises. I don’t have an impact WR here and I’m hoping for TE upside, but, if I play it patiently, I’ll have a returning Alshon and Jones make an impact come the by weeks. I reached for the Jags defense, so I hope it pays off.

QB Marcus Mariota, Ten QB Draft
RB Todd Gurley II, LAR RB Draft
RB James Conner, Pit RB Free Agency
RB/WR Jay Ajayi, Phi RB Draft
WR Keenan Allen, LAC WR Draft
WR Michael Thomas, NO WR Draft
TE Kyle Rudolph, Min TE Draft
D/ST Chargers D/ST D/ST Draft
K Justin Tucker, Bal K Draft
Bench Kenyan Drake, Mia RB Draft
Bench Mark Ingram II, NO RB  SSPD Draft
Bench Marquise Goodwin, SF WR Draft
Bench Alfred Morris, SF RB Draft
Bench Devin Funchess, Car WR Draft
Bench Jamaal Williams, GB RB Draft
Bench Tarik Cohen, Chi RB Draft

Grade: 8/10

If Mariota can perform like others thought he would last season, this team has a chance to win it all. There are plenty of upside players here with a lot of potential. My grade drops him a but for his weaker TE and QB plays.

QB Tom Brady, NE QB Trade
RB Dion Lewis, Ten RB Draft
RB Rex Burkhead, NE RB Draft
RB/WR Carlos Hyde, Cle RB Trade
WR Cooper Kupp, LAR WR Draft
WR Antonio Brown, Pit WR Trade
TE Travis Kelce, KC TE Trade
D/ST Rams D/ST D/ST Draft
K Stephen Gostkowski, NE K Draft
Bench Matt Ryan, Atl QB Draft
Bench James White, NE RB Draft
Bench Sony Michel, NE RB  Q Draft
Bench Danny Amendola, Mia WR Draft
Bench Tyler Eifert, Cin TE Draft
Bench John Ross, Cin WR Draft
Bench Sterling Shepard, NYG WR Trade

Grade: 5/10

Other than Brown and Brady, the ceiling doesn’t seem to be too high for his players, but he does have a lot of Patriots. If there’s any team that can make stars it’s them. I wouldn’t count this team out by any means.

TEAM CAP (0-0)
QB Aaron Rodgers, GB QB Draft
RB Alex Collins, Bal RB Draft
RB Jordan Wilkins, Ind RB Free Agency
RB/WR Randall Cobb, GB WR Draft
WR Larry Fitzgerald, Ari WR Draft
WR Mike Wallace, Phi WR Free Agency
TE Jimmy Graham, GB TE Draft
D/ST Saints D/ST D/ST Free Agency
K Greg Zuerlein, LAR K Draft
Bench Marshawn Lynch, Oak RB  Q Draft
Bench Emmanuel Sanders, Den WR Draft
Bench Robert Woods, LAR WR Draft
Bench Texans D/ST D/ST Draft
Bench Philip Rivers, LAC QB Draft
Bench Charles Clay, Buf TE Draft
Bench Pierre Garcon, SF WR Free

Grade: 5/10

I like Rodgers, obviously, but not at #1 overall. His WR are decent, and I do like Collins. He does have some good talent on the bench.

QB Drew Brees, NO QB Draft
RB Dalvin Cook, Min RB Draft
RB Adrian Peterson, Wsh RB Draft
RB/WR Jarvis Landry, Cle WR Draft
WR Odell Beckham Jr., NYG WR Draft
WR Allen Robinson, Chi WR Draft
TE Greg Olsen, Car TE Draft
D/ST Ravens D/ST D/ST Draft
K Matt Bryant, Atl K Draft
Bench LeSean McCoy, Buf RB Draft
Bench Calvin Ridley, Atl WR Draft
Bench David Njoku, Cle TE Draft
Bench Alex Smith, Wsh QB Draft
Bench Latavius Murray, Min RB Draft
Bench Kenny Golladay, Det WR Draft
Bench Javorius Allen, Bal RB Draft

Grade: 9/10

Surprisingly, I like this team the more I look at it. Brees will be back in form, McCoy, if he plays, will be his RB2, his WR are studs (though better suited for PPR), and I love the Ravens (especially this week against the Bills).
And what do you think? Who did well? Who needs help? Am I wrong about my team or any other teams? Chat me up.
And there you have it.
